1. What is your role here and how long have you been working for Life Centers?
I am a DSP working at Day Service and the Mohawk Home, but I’ve also recently been working with the Medical Team as the Healthcare Operations Assistant. I’ve been with Life Centers for almost two years now.
2. Can you share your story of how you started working at Life Centers? How did you find the job, and what about the job made you want to work here?
I first heard about Life Centers through Kat, who showed me around before I started working here. At the time, I was working full-time as a CNA at the hospital, where I had been for about four years. I was starting to feel burned out because of the high acuity we faced for a long stretch, so I was open to something new. I thought it was really cool to see the group home and day service environment, which was completely different from what I was used to. That experience made me want to make the switch.
3. Before working at Life Centers, what was the most unusual or interesting job you ever had?
The most unique job I had before this was working as a CNC steel machinist and welder for trailers. I started as a machinist, then was promoted to welder, but often did both since they needed me to switch back and forth. It was definitely very different from healthcare.
4. What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?
I wish people knew how much this job is about assistive care and companionship. It’s not just about helping with daily tasks—it’s also about being there for someone on a tough day and building trust. If you don’t bond with the people you support, it makes the job harder for both sides.
5. What is your favorite part of working here?
My favorite part is simply helping people. Whether it’s supporting clients directly, answering staff questions, or making sure things run smoothly, I enjoy stepping in where I’m needed.
6. What motivates you to work here?
What motivates me most is making sure things run smoothly for everyone, clients and staff alike. If the houses are running well, day services will go better. If medications and the MAR are in line, clients and staff both benefit. I like seeing all those pieces connect and creating a smoother experience for everyone.
7. What is one thing that you cannot live without?
Food! I’m a big foodie. I love trying new places and different dishes. My favorite spot around here is Gyu-Kaku, my favorite thing to get there is the tonkatsu ramen.
8. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Teleportation. Flying and super strength would be cool, but teleportation would be the most useful—and honestly, the most impressive.
9. If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be and why?
My top three are Ireland, Germany, and Japan. Ireland because of my heritage—we even have a family castle, O’Connor Castle, that we can actually stay in. Germany because I studied German from middle school through college and I’d love to experience the culture I learned about. And Japan, because I grew up watching Gundam and would love to see the life-sized Gundam statue, explore the culture, and hike Mt. Fuji.
10. What is one item on your bucket list?
I want to try a lot of adventurous things—skydiving, bungee jumping, snowboarding, and even wingsuit flying. Even though I’m scared of heights, I like to push myself to face those fears and just do it.
