WIDA Testing Party at Lincoln
Hello Northglade Families,
Your students have been identified to take WIDA test. They will be taking the test February 5 and February 6.
I sent home a copy of the Consent Forms for the WIDA Trip last week. It is very important that an adult signs the permission slip and send it back in with your student. Attached is a copy for your convivence.
WIDA stands for World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment, a consortium that develops standards and assessments for English Language Learners (ELLs) in K-12, with its name originating from the initial grant partners: Wisconsin, Delaware, and Arkansas, though it now represents a larger group of states and territories. The WIDA tests, like the ACCESS for ELLs (Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State), measure students' English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing to support their academic progress.
What WIDA does:
Provides Standards: Develops English Language Development (ELD) standards for academic English.
Creates Assessments: Designs tools like the WIDA ACCESS and WIDA Screener to identify and monitor English learners.
Measures Proficiency: Evaluates how well students understand and use academic English in four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Supports Accountability: Helps states meet federal requirements for English learner programs.
Key Tests:
ACCESS for ELLs: The main annual assessment for K-12 English learners.
WIDA Screener: An initial assessment to determine if a student needs English language support.
Alternate ACCESS: A modified assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities.
Kindergarteners will be tested at Northglade. K-5 will go to Lincoln International Elementary School with on of Northglade's MTA's.
You will be receiving a paper copy that will be coming home with your students today. Please sign the paperwork and return it with your student. I have also attached an electronic copy that you may sign as well.
Thank you,
Mrs. Duckworth
