Gilcrest Elementary

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who joined us for parent-teacher conferences! It was such a joy to meet with you and share the wonderful accomplishments and progress your students are making every day. Your ongoing partnership and dedication to your child's education are a true treasure, and we are so grateful for the supportive community we build together.

Please join me!

GES is currently hiring a part-time Classroom Assistant to work with students in the younger classrooms. The position requires availability every morning from approximately 7:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interested candidates can find the detailed job description and submission application on the district website.

As the weather begins to change and temperatures drop, please make sure your student comes to school dressed in appropriate cold-weather clothing. We will continue going outside for recess unless the temperature or wind chill falls to 20°F or lower. Because hands and ears tend to get cold very quickly, please ensure your child brings a warm hat and mittens or gloves to school every day.

Santa Shop is coming to school! From December 8th through December 16th, students will have the opportunity to shop for gifts for their family and friends at budget-friendly prices. Keep an eye out—more information and details will be coming your way soon!

Mark your calendars! We are excited to announce that our annual Chili Bingo will be returning in January 2027. This favorite community tradition is a fantastic event for families and friends to gather, enjoy great food, and have fun together.

As we prepare, our PTO will soon be reaching out for silent auction donations. If you or someone you know owns a business, please consider contributing an item or service to help support our school. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for additional details and full event information!

Seasonal Impact on Child Mental Health

What is marketed as the most wonderful time of the year is often not for children. Research shows that the winter holiday season brings a notable decline in child and adolescent mental health, largely driven by environmental disruption, family stress, and routine changes. Consequently, please monitor for notable changes in the baseline behaviors of your students, check in with them and refer them to a School Counselor if deemed appropriate. A Behavioral Health Resource list is also available to students and families on our Family Resources page.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to take a moment to wish all of our students and families a joyful and restful holiday! I am so grateful for our wonderful school community and the opportunity to support your children every day. May your break be filled with delicious food, warm memories, and quality time spent with loved ones.
