LISD Families,

As we close out 2024, I’ve been fortunate to visit campuses and attend events across LISD to see the creativity, talent, passion and holiday spirit of our incredible students and staff. More than ever, the joy that holiday hallway decorations, musical performances and festive surprises bring has been wonderful to see. The accomplishments of our students and staff during this semester are outstanding and I look forward to continued successes in 2025.

I recognize as the district has navigated the efficiency process in the face of declining enrollment it has been a challenging time for our community. Throughout the spring semester we will focus on creating welcoming and positive transition experiences for students moving to new schools for the 25-26 school year.

I understand that there are still many questions you may have for your specific situations and encourage you to review the FAQ page on the CEC website. Since the Board's decision on Dec. 9, we have been working hard to ensure that teachers and staff at all impacted schools have the opportunity to fill similar roles on other LISD campuses. I would also like to reassure you that class sizes on all campuses will not be impacted.

Looking ahead, January 14th, 2025 marks the first day of the 89th Legislative Session. As of December 9th, 441 bills related to public education have been pre-filed, including several related to basic allotment, school finance and voucher programs. We have created several videos on these topics which can be found HERE, and I hope that you take time to review them as we prepare to join together as ONE LISD in support of our public schools.

The Texas PTA Rally Day will take place on February 24, 2025 in Austin. Be sure to stay tuned to the LISD Council of PTAs and your school’s PTA for more information on that event. I am appreciative of the great support of our local PTA’s for our schools and our district.

I continue to be incredibly grateful for you, and the work that happens every day in Lewisville ISD to make our students and staff feel loved in our district. I hope that you find time over our winter break to relax and enjoy your holiday however you celebrate, and can’t wait to see you back in 2025.

Board Member Spotlight: Sheila Taylor

"As a board member for Lewisville ISD (LISD), I’ve been privileged to witness the incredible work happening in our schools every day. From the teacher who spends extra hours helping a struggling student to the bus driver who greets every child with a smile, it’s clear that the heart of public education is the people who care deeply about our kids. But the challenges we face—challenges that impact every student in our district—cannot be ignored." READ MORE

School Retirement & Boundary Adjustment Update

At its meeting on Dec. 9, the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees voted to enact a plan to retire five elementary schools and adjust campus boundaries in response to ongoing budget challenges caused by declining enrollment and the state legislature’s failure to update school funding formulas to account for inflation.

The decision, which has been under discussion since October, will result in the retirement of B.B. Owen, Creekside, Garden Ridge, Highland Village, and Polser elementary schools at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Several campuses will also undergo rezoning as part of the plan. READ MORE

Families impacted will receive more communication the week of Jan. 13 to confirm their child's new campus for the 2025-26 school year, and to support the transitions to prepare for the new school year.
