Dear LMSA Eagles and families,

Happy first week of school! This will be an amazing year filled with learning and leadership experiences for our school community. Throughout the summer, we shared several necessary operational shifts designed with our students’ growth and safety at the center. Below is a summary so we are all on the same page as we begin this school year:

Parking & Traffic Updates (Effective August 15, 2025)

  • Our school parking lot is reserved for staff only. All vehicles must display an official staff or visitor parking pass. Vehicles without a valid pass are subject to towing.

  • We ask that families drop students off on Damen or Honore (at 63rd, 62nd, or 61st Streets) to reduce traffic congestion and unsafe driving. We ask that student drivers park on Damen Avenue or nearby residential streets.

  • Our Safe Passage workers will continue to support safe arrival and dismissal for students in the surrounding area.

Early Dismissals

To protect instructional time and ensure safe, verified release of students:

  • Early dismissals will end at 2:30 p.m.

  • Individuals requesting a student must be listed in Aspen and present a valid government-issued ID.

  • Students will only be released once called from class by the main office.

After-School Supervision
  • Dismissal at 3:05 p.m. (earlier on Colloquium days).

  • Students must be in a supervised space before and after school.

  • By 5:00 p.m., all students must leave campus unless in a school activity.

  • Space is limited: 40 students in the library and 40 in the social room.

Last but not least, thanks to the Brothers of the Bloom (BoTB) for generously donating $2,000 this weekend during the annual all-class picnic. The donated funds will support student programming on Colloquium Day. Thank you for your partnership! Together we rise!

Onward & upward,

Principal Banks

Drop-Off Support

If you are interested in supporting our new morning drop-off plan as part of our parent traffic task force, please complete the LMSA volunteer form. In the meantime, you can also reach out to AP Meadows (mmeadows@cps.edu) who is finalizing the traffic task force.

Safety Updates

Dear Parents,

It is imperative that your pick-up service for your student(s) occur as close to dismissal - 3:05 PM, as possible. This statement holds for students that commute by public transportation, as well. Our Safe Passage personnel experienced budget cuts in the form of having reduced work hours. For SY26, Safe Passage hours will be from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM for the arrival schedule and 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM for the dismissal schedule.

Cell Phone Policy

Our new cell phone policy will go into effect starting on the first day of school. All classrooms will become tech turn-in zones where students turn in their phones at the start of class and retrieve them at the end of each class. You can view the research that informs this new policy HERE and HERE. Please support your student in following this policy by having a conversation with them about the importance of the policy before the first day of school. During the school day, please communicate with your student during class transitions or lunch. In the case of the emergency, please reach out directly to the main office at 773-535-9300.

Elaun Brown (SW30P) - Over the summer, I went to this program called the ComEd EV Rally where we built, programmed and drove electric vehicles. We were given $2,000 dollar scholarships for participating. There were 45 girls in teams of 5 players each that competed to win the final race, but I considered everyone a winner.

Langston B. (SW31P) - I had a full summer with my two loves, STEM and track.

  • She attended camp at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) where she took on the task through the gaming platform Minecraft creating her own game design
  • She then ended the summer spending the week at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) where she stayed on campus overnight for a week with friends learning animation from free-hand drawing to writing programs to make the drawings come alive
  • Langston competed in USATF and AAU Track & Field in 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, and hurdles making it to regionals for both in at least 3 of her events where she is ranked at state, regional and national level as a competitor.

Sunyatta Johnson (SW26P) - Feeling incredibly blessed to have spent time in Taiwan for this unforgettable journey. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture, connect with amazing people, and grow in ways I never expected. This experience has expanded my perspective, strengthened my confidence, and taught me lessons I’ll carry with me forever. Thank you, Taiwan, for the memories, the kindness, and the growth .

We are excited to share that this past summer, twenty-two (22) of our students had the life-changing opportunity to travel abroad through CIEE. They explored new cultures, built global connections, and returned with fresh perspectives that will inspire their learning for years to come.

CIEE offers 39 different summer programs across the globe, and thanks to generous scholarships, many of our students can participate at little to no cost. This is an incredible chance for them to develop language skills, experience other cultures firsthand, and grow as global citizens.

Families, please consider the opportunity and encourage your students to apply if interested.

Let’s work together to make sure even more of our students take advantage of this opportunity in summer 2026!

Thank you for inspiring our Eagles to dream big and aim high.

Sports

The Office of Sports Administration (OSA) is excited to share the following sportsmanship campaign below from our partners at Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) with our stakeholders and community partners.

Positive Coaching Alliance, along with ESPN and Disney, are promoting sportsmanship across the country through the Take Back Sports campaign, which has an emphasis on “positive sports parenting.”

Through August 31, 2025, PCA’s online course Positive Sports Parent: Developing Winners In Life Through Sports is FREE when you use the promo code : PCAESPN at checkout.

We encourage you to share this with your community in an effort to help us continue to promote sportsmanship across the District.

Alongside this training for parents, CPS is proud to partner with PCA for sportsmanship clinics throughout the year for sports administrators, coaches and families.

Please feel free to also look at PCA’s Take Back Sports YouTube Series to learn more about their programming and campaign, featuring sportsmanship tips from top athletes across the sports landscape!

Any and all questions about this campaign can be directed to PCA Senior Partnership Manager Kristi Yamaoka at kristi_yamaoka@postiivecoach.org.

Alumni Support

The Class of '95 celebrated 30 years this past weekend. They wanted to know what it would be like to walk the halls of Lindblom with each other again. They did just that, and were so enthralled with the things that changed, but yet remained the same. We'd like to thank Arkisha Bridgeman, Rosie Ballard, Ladrea LaBranche, Turqueya Wilson, Trennille Brewer-Moore, and Triano Williams for their contributions to the current school year's funds.
