January 6, 2023

Lutherville Families,

We hope everyone had a great winter break. It was a joy to be reunited with our students this week and a treat to have some warm weather as well. We're excited to settle into a nice long stretch of learning in the new year.

Next week we have a couple of Spirit Days! Thursday is BCPS Day and we're asking students to wear BCPS Blue. And Friday 1/13 is a Lutherville Spirit Day and we encourage all Leopards to wear the white LL t-shirt given out earlier this year.

Please read on to meet our new teacher, learn who our LL Teacher of the Year is, and learn about a middle school boundary study that impacts our community.

Calendar Reminders

Jan 16: Closed

Jan 17: 1:05 Dismissal

Jan 23: School closed for students (PD for staff)

Jan 25: Class Picture Day

We know what's at the end of the rainbow! We know what's at the end of the rainbow!

The primary team worked together on Friday to give students in grades K-2 a chance to learn together about winter holidays across different cultures. Students learned about Las Posadas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza traditions and engaged in aligned activities, while getting to know some students from different classrooms. A huge "thank you!" to our primary team for organizing this fun and educational opportunity.

Welcome Ms. Alabi! Welcome Ms. Alabi!

We are so excited to welcome Ms. Cheyanna Alabi to the Lutherville Lab family! Ms. Alabi joined us after winter break and is teaching a very fortunate group of 3rd grade students.

Ms. Alabi has been planning her career in education from a young age, when she joined and became President of the Educators Rising program at her high school where she also completed the Teacher’s Academy of Maryland (TAM) Program. Ms. Alabi graduated from Towson University in December, where she has earned a Provost Scholarship, multiple Dean’s List honors, and served as a Community Ambassador. At Towson, Ms. Alabi was the Cofounder and President of the Society of Black Educators. After multiple field experiences in Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties, Ms. Alabi concluded her full-time internship in Pasadena, MD and will graduate in December with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education. In her personal time, Ms. Alabi enjoys crafting, baking, and coaching cheerleading.

Ms. Alabi was able to visit Lutherville classrooms early in November, where she was impressed with the culture of learning, positive climate, and collaborative spirit among our staff. She was interviewed by a panel of administrators, staff, and community members who were all thoroughly impressed by her instructional approach, child-centered mindset, and remarkable wisdom for a young educator. We are very excited for the contributions that Ms. Alabi will make to our school and your children’s learning.

Mrs. Feltman -- Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Feltman -- Teacher of the Year!

It is with great pride and sincere congratulations that we celebrate Amy Feltman as Lutherville Lab's 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Feltman embodies so much of what makes our school special – relentless pursuit of helping every student learn, collective support of colleagues, leaning in on challenging situations, positive problem solving.

The teacher who nominated Amy shared this in nominating her:

Amy Feltman is a deserving candidate for Lutherville Lab's Teacher of the Year. Amy strives to make positive connections with students, staff, and parents. Amy develops supportive relationships with students. During arrival and dismissal times, Amy greets students and checks in with them to make sure they are ready to have a good day. You can always rely on Amy to share honest and knowledgeable advice when it comes to student behaviors and learning. Not only is Amy willing to share her knowledge but she will also create resources, assist students in the classroom, and is always willing to help. Amy is a compassionate special educator who is a worthy nominee for Teacher of the Year.
