A Word From Your Principal
A Great Start to the 26.27 School Year!
Dear Arrey Families,
What a busy and wonderful first month of school! It has been exciting to welcome our Tigers back and see our classrooms filled with learning, laughter, and new beginnings.
Throughout August, our students completed Beginning-of-Year (BOY) assessments, and teachers will use this valuable information to guide instruction and provide support based on the needs of each student. We have also spent time establishing classroom and school routines, reinforcing our school-wide CHAMPS expectations, and creating positive learning environments where students can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Most importantly, we have been setting the stage for a successful, fun, and positive 2026–2027 school year!
I value our partnership with our families and am always happy to meet with you if you have questions, concerns, or simply want to connect. Please call our office at 575-267-4778 to schedule a time that works best for you.
Thank you for a fantastic start to the year. I look forward to all that is ahead for our Arrey Tigers!
Go Tigers!

What does it mean to be an AES CHAMP?
At Arrey Elementary, being a CHAMP means making choices that help our school be a kind, respectful, and positive place to learn. Each month, teachers recognize students who demonstrate positive behavior, work hard, show kindness and respect, and help others feel like they belong.
Our CHAMPS of the Month are wonderful examples of our school vision: Together, we belong, we grow, and we succeed!
Congratulations to our August CHAMPS of the Month! We are proud of you!

Art
Hi Families!
Welcome back!
During this first quarter, students are learning art room procedures and routines, and engaging in many art projects. We are starting the year with a collaborative project. Most every student in grades K-5 created a paper quilt square. Look for the large “quilts” to be hanging in the hallways. Please check them out. The students are doing wonderful work! Some student examples are pictured below.
Next, kids in grades 1 through five will learn about actual and implied texture. They’ll use both kinds of texture in one exciting artwork. Please take the opportunity to have a discussion with your child about texture.
As always, please reach out with questions or concerns or ideas. We welcome your input about current and future art projects!
Be well,
Thea Storz
Rhonda Nickles
