PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Westwood Families,
As we head into spring, it’s the perfect time for a fresh start and renewed focus. This season offers a natural opportunity to reset routines and recommit to the habits that support student success.
Below, you’ll find a graph showing our monthly attendance percentages for the school year. Our goal is to have at least 95% of students at school each day. Research consistently shows that regular attendance is one of the strongest predictors of long-term success. Being at school every day helps students build essential reading and math skills, develop meaningful friendships, and grow in confidence. Each school day builds on the last—when students miss school, they miss valuable instruction, classroom discussions, and opportunities to connect with their peers.
As the graph reflects, attendance declined from August through January but began to improve in February and March. We are encouraged by this progress and hope to finish March strong and carry that momentum into April and May.
We invite all families to “spring into attendance” by making daily school attendance a priority. Establishing consistent morning routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible, and staying in communication with us if challenges arise can make a big difference. We are here to support you.
Together, we can ensure every student continues to grow, achieve, and finish the school year strong. Thank you for your partnership and commitment to making attendance a priority every day. 🌷
POSITIVITY PROJECT
Dear Families,
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Humor. Humor means enjoying laughter and bringing smiles to others.
Humor helps us see the lighter side of things, making tough times easier and more fun. It doesn't mean you have to tell jokes, but people with humor often notice the funny moments in life and share them with others. Humor can lift people's spirits and help them through challenges. It’s important to help students understand how to use humor in a kind way, to lift others up, and never at someone else's expense.
To practice and encourage the character strength of humor at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
Please note the following important information regarding Level 2 Volunteer status:
If you were approved as a Level 2 Volunteer for School Year (SY) 2024–2025 and have not submitted a Volunteer Application for SY 2025–2026, your Level 2 status will not be extended for SY 2025–2026.
As a result, you will need to complete the fingerprinting process again in order to obtain Level 2 status for SY 2026–2027.
The District does not retain fingerprint records indefinitely. Volunteers must submit a Volunteer Application each school year to maintain and extend their Level 2 status. If a Volunteer does not follow this annual renewal process, their information is removed from the District’s database.
CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION OPENS
March 2, 2026-March 31, 2026
This enrollment window is for students currently enrolled in Poway Unified schools in grades TK-11. A digital registration packet must be completed for ALL currently enrolled students, whether your child(ren) are returning or leaving the district next school year.
If your family is not returning to PUSD for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the online packet for your child(ren) to let us know. We’ve simplified the process this year: once you select the "No, we are not planning to return next year" option, the form will automatically skip to the end for a quick submission. It only takes a moment and greatly helps us with our planning for the upcoming school year.
Completing the Continuing Student Registration process will allow for proper placement of your child(ren) for the 2026-2027 school year as well as appropriate release procedures for those who will not be returning. For full instructions on this process, visit the Continuing Registration webpage.
