Please help these "Missing" Coats! It's cold and they need a home!
(Cue sad and lonely music)
Did you know that every 2 minutes a Satchel Ford Coat is reported "missing!" The weather is changing and the temperature is dropping. During this time many coats become "missing." If you or someone you love is "missing" their coat, please call the Satchel Ford Missing Coat Hotline at 803-738-7209. With your help and support, we can reunite all of the "missing" coats with their families so that they can enjoy this holiday season in the warmth and comfort of home. Please take a moment, call the "missing" coat hotline and rescue a "missing" coat. Any remaining "missing" coats will be donated to their New Home on December 19.
(End sad and lonely music)
From the Nurse's Office
Happy December Satchel Ford Families. Just wanted to keep you updated on what’s happening in the Health Room.
Multiple cases of strep throat have been reported this week. Here is some brief information that may help you understand and know a little more about strep.
Strep throat is an infection in the throat and tonsils. Anyone can get strep throat; however it is more common in children 5-15 years of age. People can get strep throat more than once.
How does the strep spread?
The bacteria that causes strep throat travels in respiratory droplets that are created when an infected person coughs or sneezes. You can get sick if you breathe in those droplets, or touch something that has the droplets on it and then touch your mouth or nose.
How to prevent strep?
The following steps can prevent the spread of strep throat:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
- Avoid sharing eating utensils with someone who is sick with strep throat
- When you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or your upper sleeve or elbow if you don't have a tissue
Diagnosis and Treatment
Health care providers test for strep throat by swabbing the throat and testing for the bacteria. If diagnosed with strep throat, you may be prescribed antibiotics by your health care provider. It is important to take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed even when one starts to feel better. Not finishing the full course of medication can result in a longer infection or more serious complications. Most pediatricians will excuse students for 1-2 days for antibiotics to begin working.
Symptoms of strep?
The symptoms of strep throat usually include the following:
- Sore throat can start very quickly and can cause severe pain when swallowing
- Fever
- Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
- Tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth
- Swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck
Other symptoms may include headache, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.

I got the “T” on Bullying
There Are 6 Types of Bullying
When most people picture bullying, they likely imagine a group of kids punching and kicking another kid. But physical bullying is not the only type of bullying. Researchers have identified six unique types of bullying:
- Cyberbullying
- Physical Bullying
- Prejudicial Bullying
- Relational Aggression
- Sexual Bullying
- Verbal bullying
Knowing how to spot all types of bullying helps parents and educators respond more effectively to bullying situations. Be sure you can recognize relational aggression and cyberbullying as easily as you can spot physical bullying.

Car Line Update
Car Line Procedures & No Left Turn Signs
- We are still having some trouble at car line Maintaining ONE line on Satchel Ford Road. DO NOT make 2 lines at the split point. Doing this blocks traffic on Satchel Ford Road.
- Do not enter the carline from Shannon Springs Road. This is adding to the congestion at the back of the line towards the 4 way stop. Please enter the carline from the 4 way stop at Brierfield.
- DO NOT drop off or pick up students at the side of Satchel Ford Road. The front parking lot is NOT a student drop off or pick up area. Students are only to be dropped off and picked up at the drop off and pick up areas at the front and side car lines.
- The DOT has installed No Left Turn signs on Satchel Ford Road at the entrances and exits to all of the car lines. If you haven't seen them, please keep a look out for them, and make sure the proper traffic patterns are being followed. FAPD has been notified of them and will be patrolling Satchel Ford Road.
