Principal's News

Martinson students had a special visit from author Maureen Harrington and her amazing dog, Ivy! Maureen shared Ivy’s real-life story of courage, resilience, and determination. After becoming paralyzed in her back legs, Ivy didn’t give up — she learned to keep moving with the help of a doggie wheelchair, lots of love, and a big dose of perseverance. Her story reminded us all that even when life gets hard, we can overcome challenges with a positive attitude, support from others, and the belief that we can do hard things. Thank you, Maureen and Ivy, for inspiring us to never give up!

From The Nurse

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. At school, we care about every part of your child’s well-being—including their mental and emotional health. Just like we check in when students have a stomachache or scraped knee, we also want to support them when they’re feeling sad, worried, or overwhelmed.

May is also Allergy Awareness Month. Allergies can affect kids in many different ways—from sneezing and itchy eyes to more serious reactions involving food, insects, or environmental triggers. At school, we work hard to keep all students safe and comfortable—especially those with allergies that can cause serious health concerns.

Seasonal Allergies: With the arrival of spring, many children may experience allergies triggered by pollen. Keep an eye out for symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, and congestion.

Healthy Eating: Encourage your child to maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Packing colorful and nutritious snacks like fruits, nuts, and yogurt can help sustain their energy levels throughout the day. Don't forget to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Sun Safety: As the weather warms up, outdoor activities become more enticing. Remind your child to apply sunscreen before heading outside to protect against harmful UV rays. Encourage the use of hats and sunglasses for added protection, especially during peak sun hours.

Importance of Sleep: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep each night to support their physical and mental development. Establish a consistent bedtime routine and limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep quality.

If you have any concerns about your child's health, or illnesses that may occur during the school year, please notify the school nurse at 781-319-3985.

Remember, a healthy child is a happy and successful learner.

Library News

This week in the library we teamed up with Mrs. Hayes, our school counselor, to work on a school-wide surprise project for staff appreciation week. We created cards and notes for our teachers and educators as a token of our appreciation for all their hard work and support. We also discussed how expressing gratitude for someone else can make us feel better too.
