BLACKHAWKS BULLETIN
Week of March 15th
7th Graders - Ready to serve our guests at the Spring Community Luncheon
PRINCIPAL PONDERINGS
Good afternoon,
There is no school tomorrow. I am sending your weekly bulletin out today as we will be very busy here at the school tomorrow. Our March professional development day is a full-day opportunity for teams to meet and review student data, including NWEA data, student classwork, Quaglia survey data, and behavioral data. Teams of educators meet to discuss class wide trends in data and make instructional and programmatic tweaks. This process not only helps us plan for immediate interventions and supports, it also informs upcoming parent teacher conferences and planning for next year.
Speaking of next year, thank you so much to all who participated in yesterday's District Meeting. It was wonderful to see and hear from so many parents. Your voices matter and it's so helpful to the Board and administration to hear your feedback and count your vote as we move forward with the 2026/27 budget that was passed. It was a long meeting - longer than usual - and I know you all have things to do. I can't thank you enough for making the time to be there.
Over the coming weeks and months, your feedback will be top-of-mind as the administration and staff will finalize decisions regarding 2026/27 staffing assignments, schedules, and programming that allow us to prioritize:
Early literacy skills, especially in 1st through 3rd grades
Strengthening math instruction, K to 8
Academic skills and mindsets that support lifelong learning (executive functioning, goal setting, perseverance, curiosity, etc.)
Increased engagement through voice & agency across all subjects
A SAFE, supportive, and welcoming culture & climate from the moment you walk in the door to the class-by-class activities.
We have an exceptional staff and school community. While it truly pains me to lose any of them, I am confident - despite the significant cuts - that we have the expertise and resources in place to achieve our goals and maintain our current momentum. Speaking of our momentum, I am sharing a very small glimpse of the data we consider as part of our process. If you enjoy data and thinking strategically about the future, please watch for future opportunities to participate in a Portrait of a Learner Forum. At the Forum, we will look at data to understand where we are and work together to identify key goals for our students moving forward.
Enjoy your day tomorrow. We are so thankful for the time to look deeply at our data and work together to adapt our instruction to best meet their needs.

Four Winds
Do you know a grandparent or other family member who wants to spend more time with your child? Would you like to help out in your kids' classroom and learn who their classmates are?We are looking for volunteers for grades K-4. The Four Winds program at PES teaches about science through observing and playing in nature. Volunteers attend five training workshops and then go into the classroom to teach the kids what they learned. Examples of subjects we have learned include clouds, water, flowers, wind, insects, birds, and much more. Kids love seeing their family members in the classroom and always look forward to the fun lessons the Four Winds Institute plans.
If you are interested or know of a family member interested, please contact Kathleen Maslan.

BLS (Basic Life Support) classes for public learners, $75. Online portion and skills assessments. I would recommend the instructor-led skills assessment as opposed to the voice-assisted manikin (VIM) as and instructor will be able to answer any questions you may have.
The American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals with the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an automated
external defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course may be utilized by certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals. While the images and videos in this course will show a healthcare setting, the skills are applicable to the general public as well. https://www.dartmouth-hitchcock.org/life-support-program/bls-courses
