Edison Newsletter!
September 3rd, 2024
Hello Edison family,
We are excited to invite you to our Fall Into Learning Night this Tuesday from 5:30–7:00 PM! It’s going to be a fantastic evening filled with fun activities for the whole family. We’ll have food, Kona Ice, a bounce house, a fire truck, and many other exciting events planned. It’s a great opportunity to engage with your child’s learning and connect with our school community.
We have a lot of great things to celebrate this week. Please see all of the photos below.
Also, don’t forget that Picture Day is this Tuesday as well. Please make sure your child comes to school ready for their photo!
Reoccurring reminders:
Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.
Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.
Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.
Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick.
New school policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...
Thank you, and have a blessed week!

Special Education Teacher: Pam Roberts
Hello, this is my 30th year of teaching, I am the first grade special education teacher. In my spare time I enjoy going to car shows, working on our small farm, and spending time with my family.
First Grade Teacher: Savannah Fields
Hello! My name is Ms. Savannah Fields! This year will be my 3rd year in education and 2nd year coaching at GISD! I’m very sports and school involved and absolutely love it! During my free time, I love to go golf and the lake, play with my dog Yoshi, and hangout with my friends and family! A fun fact about me is I have a twin brother in the Air Force! 💙
Kindergarten Teacher: Danielle Keefer
My name is Danielle Keefer. I have worked at Edison for 4 years. I was accepted into our GISD first’s cohort of Grow Your Own Program, where I have been able to fast track to accomplish getting my teaching degree. I absolutely love being on the Kindergarten team! My husband, eight year old son, and I love exploring Texas on the weekends and making fun memories! Fun fact: I have ridden on a camel, his name was Fred. And I also swam with dolphins and sting rays. Most recently my family and I were able to help a charity and we rescued baby sea turtles on the beach in Cozumel, Mexico.
Join the 2024-2025 School Health Advisory Council!
The Gainesville ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group of dedicated individuals representing segments of the community, to provide advice to the district on coordinated school health programming and its impact on student health and learning. The SHAC assists the district in ensuring that local community values are reflected in the district's health education instruction.
The SHAC will meet four times throughout the year: September 19, October 24, February 20, March 27. All meetings will be held at the administration building from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.
To join the 2024-2025 SHAC, please complete this >>>google form>>>
SHACs provide an efficient, effective structure for recommending age-appropriate, sequential health education programs, and early intervention and prevention strategies that can easily be supported by local families and community stakeholders. Every independent school district is required by law to have a SHAC. The majority of members must be parents who are not employees of the GISD. All parents are invited to attend the SHAC meetings.
Join the GISD Parent Advisory Committee!
Dr. Stewart would like to invite our GISD parents and guardians to join the 2024-2025 Parent Advisory Committee (P.A.C.). We recognize that parental involvement is one of the cornerstones of a thriving educational community. The P.A.C. provides a platform for parents like YOU to contribute to the shaping of the future of GISD. Your insights, perspectives, and ideas are invaluable as we navigate the exciting challenges and opportunities that come with a growing city and school district.
There are four meetings scheduled for the year: October 9, December 11, February 12, April 9. All meetings are held from 5:30 - 7pm. Each meeting will cover a variety of topics and will give you the opportunity to discuss important topics within GISD and public education.
We hope you can join us! Our goal is to have 100 people attend! Please consider coming to share YOUR voice!
