A note from Ms. Quinney A note from Ms. Quinney

zoom_out_map

Mustang Families,

Next week is back to school! You should have received a call from your child's teacher this week, introducing themselves and inviting you to Meet the Teacher. A lot of teachers said their calls went to voicemail, which I can understand because I don't answer calls from unknown numbers either! However, if you receive a call from a phone number that starts with 512-594-xxxx, that is a call coming from Pflugerville ISD. Murchison's phone number is 512-594-6000 if you want to go program that number in your phone!

We hope to see you at Meet the Teacher Night on Monday! The building will be open from 4:30-6:30. This is a come-and-go event where you can see your child's classroom, meet their teacher, and drop off their school supplies. I will be in the main hallway so please make sure your child stops by to say "hi" to me and give me a hug! If you can't make it to Meet the Teacher, we look forward to seeing you on the first day of school on Wednesday!

Thank you,

Carrie Quinney

Principal

First Two Days of School First Two Days of School

Parents may walk their child to class on Wednesday, August 13 and Thursday, August 14, the 1st and 2nd day of school. After that, parents will say goodbye in the "hugs and kisses zone" in the front foyer of the building and allow students to walk to their classrooms independently. We will have plenty of extra hands in the hallways the first couple of weeks for students that need help finding their classroom.

Morning Arrival Morning Arrival

zoom_out_map

Make plans to arrive to school on time! Students who need to eat breakfast at school may arrive at 7:05 a.m. The building will be locked until 7:05 a.m. so please make sure your students do not arrive before that.

All students will be released to their class at 7:20 a.m. If your child is not eating breakfast, they should arrive between 7:20 - 7:30.

The first bell rings at 7:30 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 7:35 a.m. Students are expected to be in their seats ready for instruction at 7:35 a.m.

Dismissal Procedures Dismissal Procedures

zoom_out_map

There are 4 ways students will be dismissed at Murchison.

1. EDP: Paid after school care that is run by the district. Teachers will walk students to the cafeteria to be checked in by the EDP director.

2. Daycare: Teachers will walk students to the bus loop to wait with a designated staff member who will ensure they are picked up by the daycare you have arranged.

3. Walker/Biker: All walkers/bikers will be dismissed at 2:45 (2:40 for first week or two). If you would like to walk from home or park and pick up your child, they will dismiss with walker/bikers. Students will be brought out to a designated area in the back of the school. Teachers will wait with students being picked up by a parent. Signs will be posted where each grade level will line up. Please wait in the assigned area for your child. If your children are walking home without a parent, the oldest sibling will pick up the younger siblings and head home.

4. Car rider: At Murchison we use a website dismissal system. Every family has a designated number. Parents will drive through the car line with the school supplied car tag from this year to display. You will receive a plastic tag to hang on your mirror as well as a yellow paper tag you can attach to the back of the visor. If you do not have the car tag, you will be directed to park and go into the office to verify ID to pick up your child. Students will be staged inside with teachers until they are dismissed by the system. Please do not get out of your car at any time, just pull up to the next available spot and we will bring your child to your car. All students must enter the passenger side of the vehicle. When your child is in the car, please move forward so we can keep the line moving. The car line is a “drive through” line so you do not get out of your car and need to pull all the way forward to keep the line moving.

** Please keep your tag in your car even if your child is not normally a car rider. You will need it in the event that you change for the day. (Inclement weather, appointment, etc.)

Once students leave the classroom/building, they will not be allowed to go back for water bottles, lunchboxes, jackets, etc. They are responsible for packing their items at the end of the day and can retrieve forgotten items the next day.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation to ensure all students are dismissed safely. Let’s have a great year!

CAAC CAAC

A Campus Academic Advisory Council (CAAC) is established on each campus to assist the principal. The council meets 4-6 times per year for the purpose of site-based decision-making. During the CAAC meeting, we review the Campus Improvement Plan and discuss if we are meeting our goals and how to improve upon them.

I have an available business, community, and parent spot on our CAAC. Please email me at carrie.quinney@pfisd.net if you are interested in serving!

Breakfast and Lunch at Murchison Breakfast and Lunch at Murchison

zoom_out_map

Breakfast in the cafeteria is free for all students in PfISD. If you want your child to eat breakfast at school, the doors open at 7:05 am for breakfast eaters. For lunch, students can bring a lunch from home or purchase a lunch from the cafeteria.

Free and reduced lunch applications are still available and need to be filled out every year. To fill out an application for free and reduced lunch for the 2025-2026 school year, please go here: https://www.pfisd.net/programs/food-and-child-nutrition-services/free-and-reduced-meals-application-and-socioeconomic-information-form

Breakfast and lunch menus can be found here: https://pfisd.nutrislice.com/menu/murchison-elementary-school

If you would like to eat lunch with your child, you will need to badge in using our Raptor kiosk. You may eat at the tables in the front foyer or at the picnic tables outside. You may only eat with your own child. I would like to kindly suggest that you do not eat lunch with your child during the first couple weeks of school, though. Lunch is a social time for our students and it helps them get reacclimated to school by eating in the cafeteria with their peers.

Label Personal Items Label Personal Items

In just a few short weeks, I predict our Lost and Found will be overflowing! Be proactive in making sure your personal belongings don't end up in Lost and Found by labeling your child's jackets, hoodies, lunch boxes, and water bottles.

Cut-off Time for Early Pick-Up and Changes in Going Home Cut-off Time for Early Pick-Up and Changes in Going Home

zoom_out_map

If you need to pick your child up from school early or change the way they go home for the day, these changes need to be made before 2:15 p.m. Please call the front office at 512-594-6000 for changes that need to be made that day but also communicate these changes with your child's teacher in advance, if possible. For example, if you know your child needs to leave early for a doctor's appointment and your child's teacher knows about the change the day before, they can help to have your child packed up and ready to go so you don't have to wait as long in the front office!

Classroom Deliveries Classroom Deliveries

zoom_out_map

All classroom deliveries will be made at 9:30 a.m. If your child forgot something at home and needs it delivered to their classroom, make sure to drop it off before 9:30 a.m.

School Supply Lists School Supply Lists

zoom_out_map

Ready to do some school supply shopping? School supply lists can be found here:

https://www.pfisd.net/our-schools/campus-resources/school-supply-lists

If you ordered from Sprout, their supplies will be delivered directly to the classroom.

When you do your school supply shopping, please look for spill-proof water bottles. We have found that some of the cups, even if they have a lid, get knocked over and spill on papers and computers in classrooms.

Early Pick-Ups Early Pick-Ups

zoom_out_map

For safety reasons, classroom doors remain locked at all times. If you pick your child up early, there is a good chance that any items left in the classroom will need to be retrieved the next day when they return. The front office staff does not have keys to the classrooms.

Please remember to communicate any early pickups with your child's teacher. Additionally, let your child's teacher know about any changes in going home.

Throughout the year we will have games and prize opportunities for our staff and teachers. If you would like to donate a $10 gift card (to anywhere!) for a staff prize, feel free to drop it off in the front office.
