I hope everyone enjoyed a their Halloween and had a wonderful October! With the first quarter ending November 13th, I want to remind everyone of the importance of keeping up with schoolwork and maintaining strong attendance. As we head into the second quarter, we have a fresh start, and I’m confident that with your support, we’ll see continued growth in both academics and attendance.

First, I want to thank all the parents who volunteered for Trunk or Treat. Help from parents, community and staff makes these events a fun place for students to go to school. In addition to Trunk or Treat, we also had a good turnout for our Parent Teacher Conferences.

As we enter this season of thanks, I want to highlight the importance of gratitude. The support and partnership we share with each of you is invaluable, and we are so grateful for the dedicated families in our Eastland community. Please do your best to make sure students attend school. Attendance is so important to success of students grades and academics.

Thank you once again for your continued support and partnership. Let’s make November a month of growth, celebration, and gratitude. Let’s also continue to engrain your/our students to always have the growth mindset and believe in the Power of Yet.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS IMPORTANT REMINDERS

*Reminder: EMS is a "closed campus". We do not accept third party lunch deliveries (Door Dash, Uber Eats, Grub Hub) for students. As always, parents are welcome to drop off lunches in the Main Office.

*When dropping off food and/or beverage items for students, please be aware that glass bottles/containers are not allowed for safety reasons. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

*Student attendance is very important. If a student will be absent for any reason, please call and notify the school office. When calling, please give the reason, the length of the absence, and who is calling for them. State law requires us to report chronic and excessive absences, including tardiness, early release, and late pick-ups. We encourage you to schedule medical appointments for after school hours to limit early pick-ups.

*Dismissal is an EXTREMELY busy time in the Office. Please refrain from calling the Office last minute with instructions. We understand that emergencies and unplanned things happen, and are happy to relay that message.

*Cell phones and other devices must stay in lockers-the following is the discipline policy:

First Offense: student turns in the phone/device to the Office and it can be picked up at the end of the day. Parent is notified by email.

Second Offense: Student will receive a lunch detention, parent is notified by email and parent must pick up phone/device from the Office.

Third Offense: Student will receive an after school detention and parent will be notified via email. Parent must pick up the phone/device from the Office.

Fourth Offense: Student will receive an after school detention, and parent will be notified via email. Parent must pick up the phone/device from the Office.

Fifth Offense: Student receives an at home suspension, parent is notified via email and parent must pick up device/phone from the Office.

Devices include: Smartwatches, Airpods, Headphones, iPads, MP3 players and the like.

It is Michigan state law that students not use devices during school hours.

*Please remember to drop off your students outside of the Cafeteria-NOT in the bus drop off lane, as it causes safety concerns and slows down transportation routes. Please follow the traffic pattern: Enter from Frank St., and exit at Tennessee St. Several vehicles are going against the established traffic pattern resulting in close calls in the parking lot and entrance. Thank you!

*To help students prepare for emergencies, schools routinely practice safety drills for fire, tornado, lockdown and shelter in place. In the event of a building crisis, all doors will be closed/locked, lights turned out and window blinds closed. Students will be moved away from the door and remain quiet until the "ALL CLEAR" is given by the Office.

*Admittance to all middle school athletic events is $2.00-6th grade and older. 5th grade and younger children are admitted at no cost. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED ENTRY WITHOUT THEIR PARENT PER RHS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT!
