The Weekly Update #4
August 24th, 2026
Message from Ms. Riley
Dear Racer Families,
As we finish the first quarter, I want to take a moment to reflect on a wonderful start to the school year.
At the heart of Newcastle Elementary are our three core values: the Courage to Learn, the Compassion to Care, and the Connection to Lead. We are so proud to see our students living these values every day!
A major focus for us has been building strong character. We have been emphasizing our "Words of the Month"—Kindness, Respect, and for October, Responsibility. We have loved celebrating our Students of the Month who exemplify these traits during our Racer Rallies! These student-led assemblies are a fantastic way for us to showcase our Great Expectations and see our students shine as leaders.
With the first quarter behind us, it is the perfect time to discuss your child's progress. Parent/Teacher conferences will be held this Thursday, October 15th, and next Tuesday, October 20th, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making this a fantastic year for our students!
Childcare Questionnaire
Racer Families, we are surveying parents and guardians to determine if it would be beneficial to operate a latch key program, providing families with affordable (at a rate to be determined) after school care beginning in the second semester. If operational, the program would offer games, crafts, activities, and tutoring and would close each day at 6:00. This survey will close in two weeks.

This Month’s Focus: Big Feelings
We all have big feelings sometimes! One thing we are working on with our students is recognizing those feelings and learning what we can do when we start to feel upset, frustrated, or overwhelmed.
Try It at Home:
When your child is having a big feeling, encourage them to stop and name how they are feeling. Then help them find something that works for them to reset. This could be taking a few deep breaths, counting to ten, getting a drink of water, or simply taking a short break.
Talk About It:
Ask your child, “What helps you calm down when you are having a hard time?”
Remember: Sometimes we all just need a minute to drop anchor, reset, and try again!
Upcoming Events:
Oct. 15 & 20: Parent/Teacher Conferences 4:30-7:30
Oct. 19- 22: Homecoming Spirit Week & School Store Fundraiser

Hello! I’ve had the privilege of serving in education for 23 years, and my passion for learning only grows stronger each year. As a lifelong learner, I strive to inspire that same curiosity in our students. Beyond the classroom walls, my heart belongs to my family, especially my kids and grandbabies!
