The Dawg Dispatch is our weekly snapshot of life as a Bulldawg, straight facts, clear wins, and what’s next, so families and staff can pull in the same direction. It reflects our mission: “The mission of the Aberdeen School District is to inspire ALL students to become problem-solvers, lifelong learners, and productive members of society.”

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and carried out coordinated attacks: two struck the World Trade Center in New York City, one hit the Pentagon, and one crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers fought back. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost. The day revealed extraordinary courage from first responders and ordinary citizens, reshaped national security, and left a lasting mark on families and communities. We remember the victims, honor those who served, and teach our students the values of resilience, service, and unity.

Clue in the Kitchen: Tools, Teamwork, and a Tasty Twist

Ms. Oliver’s Nutrition & Wellness students put their kitchen-tool knowledge to the test with a hands-on mystery challenge inspired by the classic game Clue. Teams identified tools, explained proper use and safety, and then applied those skills to solve recipe “clues” that unlocked each step of a simple dish. The activity reinforced real-world competencies, such as tool identification, sanitation, reading procedural text, time management, and teamwork, while keeping learning lively and purposeful. By the final reveal, students had both a finished product and proof that strong fundamentals make every kitchen run smoothly. That’s practical learning the Bulldawg way. #BulldawgPride

Learning USDA Guidelines with Our Child Nutrition Team

Nutrition & Wellness classes have been studying the USDA’s MyPlate guidelines and the nuts and bolts of meal planning. To bring the learning home, Mrs. Latasha Hubbard and Mrs. Amy Tate from our Child Nutrition team visited to explain how they use those federal standards to plan balanced breakfasts and lunches for every school in the district. They walked students through real menu decisions, portion sizes, variety, and cost, while stressing the everyday importance of eating both breakfast and lunch. Students also had time to offer suggestions for new items they’d like to see on the menu. It’s a simple formula: solid guidance, practical planning, and student voice. That’s how we keep meals nutritious, familiar, and forward-looking. #BulldawgPride

AHS Students Lead 9/11 Tribute: Colors & Flyover

On September 11, 2025, Aberdeen High School JROTC cadets presented the colors at the City Hall Remember 9/11 ceremony. The posting of the colors set a respectful tone as our community gathered to honor lives lost and recognize the service of first responders and military members. In a special tribute, Flight Academy student pilot Ashton Parks executed a commemorative flyover above the event. We are grateful to the City of Aberdeen for inviting our students to take part each year, an opportunity that teaches discipline, respect, and civic duty in a real, public setting. Thank you to our cadets, instructors, and aviation partners for representing Aberdeen with pride and professionalism. #BulldawgPride

Accountability in Action: Table Talk 2025

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Dr. Andrea Pastchal-Smith hosted Table Talk: A Night Out with the Superintendent. Families, staff, and community members gathered for district updates followed by honest Q&A. The tone was exactly what school-community partnership should be—accountability, openness, and practicality—with plenty of good food and laughter to keep it neighborly. Participants heard straightforward progress notes and next steps, then shared priorities and questions in a respectful setting. Thank you to everyone who spent an evening investing in our students and schools. When we sit down together and tell the truth about what’s working—and what needs work—we move forward faster. That’s the Aberdeen way. #BulldawgPride

ICC on Campus: Real Talk on College Next Steps

Today, September 11, 2025, a recruiter from Itawamba Community College met with our College & Career and Dual Enrollment classes at Aberdeen High School. Tyrani Key walked students through what matters most right now: student events and campus life, housing options, financial aid, and scholarship pathways, with straight answers and practical next steps. The message was simple: college success starts with timely applications, smart funding choices, and using the supports that are already in place. Students left with clear action items, how to explore programs, when to apply, and where to get help with scholarships and FAFSA. We appreciate ICC for meeting students where they are and helping them plan what’s next with confidence. #BulldawgPride

Sky Dawgs at Monroe County Aviation Day

On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Aberdeen High School students participated in Monroe County Aviation Day. To kick off the event, Flight Academy student pilot Ashton Parks flew the district’s training aircraft, an exciting start that set the tone for a hands-on, career-focused day. Our Sky Dawgs were on site to support the program, answer questions, and share how Aberdeen students earn real flight hours and real know-how toward aviation careers. Freshman Roderick Ingram put the lesson in plain terms: “Flying a plane is very delicate and can be very expensive.” That’s why we emphasize precision, safety, and stewardship from day one.

This annual event grows bigger every year because it’s simple and clever: students meet professionals, see pathways, and understand what it takes. Interested in aviation? Join the AHS Flight Academy to build hours, discipline, and credentials that open doors to high-skill, high-wage jobs. That’s a runway worth taking. #BulldawgPride

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Every day counts. Students who are in school, on time, learn more, feel connected, and stay on track for the year. Families, set the routine now: early bedtime, alarms set, backpacks packed, and rides arranged. Please schedule appointments after school when possible, and call the office if you hit a snag so we can help. Let’s make showing up our standard—every child, every day.

September is Attendance Awareness Month, let’s make “in school, on time, every day” the standard.
