Principal's News
This week was Diversity Week, and what an amazing celebration it was! We had a blast on Flag Day, seeing so many countries represented throughout the school—what a colorful and inspiring sight! Students also shared their Culture Jars, and it was incredible to learn more about each other’s backgrounds, traditions, and experiences.
A special highlight was a visit from MHS students who are part of the Breaking Boundaries Team. They spent time with our 2nd graders, reading All Are Welcome and leading thoughtful conversations about what makes each of us unique. Each second grader created a leaf filled with symbols and pictures representing their individuality, and then proudly placed it on our All Are Welcome Tree. This beautiful tree is now on display in our main hallway as a vibrant reminder of the uniqueness and inclusivity that make our school so special.
It was a powerful and joyful event, and we’re so grateful to the high schoolers who helped make it extra memorable!

From The Nurse
As we transition into the spring season, it's important to ensure all children stay healthy and engaged. Postural Screenings for Grade 5 students will be conducted in April. Postural screenings help identify signs of scoliosis and other spinal conditions in students. These screenings are a routine part of school health. If any concerns are noted, parents will receive a referral for further evaluation by a healthcare provider. If you wish to opt your child out of the postural screening process, please email the school nurse jgoodwin@mpsd.org.
Did you know? Just 15 minutes of outdoor play in the sunshine helps the body produce Vitamin D, which supports strong bones and a healthy immune system! (National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Dietary Supplements, 2023)
Seasonal Allergies: With the arrival of spring, many children may experience allergies triggered by pollen. Keep an eye out for symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, and congestion.
Ticks and Insect Bites: As the weather warms up, we are all spending more time outdoors, which means it’s important to be aware of ticks and other insect bites. Ticks are commonly found in grassy, wooded, or brush-filled areas and can carry illnesses such as Lyme disease. To help prevent tick bites, children should wear long sleeves, pants, and light-colored clothing to easily spot ticks. Using insect repellent containing DEET and performing thorough tick checks after outdoor activities can also reduce the risk. If a tick is found, it should be removed promptly with tweezers, grasping it as close to the skin as possible and pulling it straight out. Encouraging daily tick checks, especially behind ears, along the hairline, under arms, and around the waist and ankles.
Healthy Eating: Encourage your child to maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Packing colorful and nutritious snacks like fruits, nuts, and yogurt can help sustain their energy levels throughout the day. Don't forget to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Sun Safety: As the weather warms up, outdoor activities become more enticing. Remind your child to apply sunscreen before heading outside to protect against harmful UV rays. Encourage the use of hats and sunglasses for added protection, especially during peak sun hours.
Importance of Sleep: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep each night to support their physical and mental development. Establish a consistent bedtime routine and limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep quality.
If your child had any of the following symptoms today, please keep them home
Fever over 100 degrees (must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin to return to school)
Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school)
Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours
Any absences related to an illness that exceed 5 or more days must have a doctor’s note. If absence is due to a communicable disease or bone fracture, a doctor’s note is required the day the student returns to school and should include any restrictions.
If you have any concerns about your child's health, or illnesses that may occur during the school year, please notify the school nurse at 781-319-3985.
Remember, a healthy child is a happy and successful learner.
