Dear Edmondson Families,

We have some fun activities planned this week.

Thursday, October 29th: Stallion Stampede:

Students will run during their Specials classes on Thursday, October 29th. There will be a warm up before their run time and a cool down afterwards. Here is the schedule:

4th & 5th Grade: 8:45-9:15am

Kindergarten and 1st Grade: 1:00-1:30pm

2nd and 3rd Grade: 2:10-2:40pm

Parents are welcome to attend and there will be a sign in table next to the track on the field outside. Students who raise the most money will win prizes. Our goal this year is to raise money for a Gaga-Ball Pit and equipment for Recess/PE. When donating using the QR code below, families should include the student's name and grade in the subject line. Thank you for your support! We also need volunteers - see the QR code or link below if you can help.

Friday, October 30 Fall Celebration Activities:

1. STEM Challenge – 12:45 PM
Our annual STEM Challenge will take place at 12:45 PM! Students will work with friends across grade levels, giving our older students a chance to mentor and support our younger students. This is always a fun opportunity for students to learn, collaborate, and build connections with one another.

2. Fall Parade – 2:15 PM, Followed by Classroom Parties
Our Fall Parade will begin at 2:15 PM, with classroom parties immediately following the parade. A map of the parade route is linked below and will be shared again on ClassDojo.

Families are welcome to join the classroom parties after the parade, at the time communicated by your child's classroom teacher. We love having families join us for these celebrations!

To help us keep the afternoon running smoothly and ensure students are ready for the parade, families who are not registered volunteers will need to wait until the designated party time to enter classrooms. This means parents and family members who are not registered volunteers may not visit classrooms or assist students with costumes before that time. Thank you for helping us keep the afternoon organized and safe for everyone!

Please remember that students are not required to participate in the Halloween parade or classroom party. An alternate activity will be provided for students who choose not to participate. If you would prefer that your child not participate in the parade or party, please notify your child's classroom teacher.

3. Costume Preparation
Students will have time to change into their costumes before the parade. Please make sure your child can put on their costume independently, as we do not have the staffing available to assist students with getting dressed. Students should not wear their costumes to school. This includes face paint and costume makeup. Please send costumes to school for students to change into later in the day.

Costume Guidelines:

We want everyone to have fun while keeping our celebration safe and school-appropriate! As you plan your child's costume, please consider: What will they wear? Is it safe? Is it appropriate for school?

We love seeing the creativity and variety of costumes our students come up with each year! Please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Keep it school-appropriate. Costumes with excessive blood or gore are not permitted. Ghosts, monsters, and skeletons are welcome, but please leave the gore at home.

  • No weapons or dangerous props. Items such as knives, swords, toy guns, or other weapons are not allowed.

  • Choose safe footwear. High-heeled shoes are not permitted, as students will be walking around the perimeter of the building during the parade.

  • Inflatable costumes are welcome! Blow-up-style costumes are permitted during the parade.

If you're unsure whether a costume is appropriate for school, we encourage you to choose another option.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support! We're looking forward to a fun-filled Fall celebration with our Edmondson students and families on Friday, October 30!

PTO are also hosting a Halloween Family Dance from 5:30-7:00pm, see the details below, they need volunteers and you can use the QR code or link below to sign up to help.

As always, please reach out to me with any compliments, questions or concerns.

Dia de Los Muertos Ofrenda Dia de Los Muertos Ofrenda

ofrenda
zoom_out_map

Laurene Edmondson annually recognizes Dia de Los Muertos- a holiday celebrated primarily in Mexico and Latin America. Traditionally, on November 1 and 2, families honor their ancestors that have passed away in a celebration of their memory: it is a sort of joyful family reunion with the deceased as guests of honor. Next week (starting Monday, October 26 - Monday November 2nd), we will have an "Ofrenda" (altar)- to commemorate our loved ones. If you would like to celebrate with us, you may send in 1 small paper copy of a picture (4x6" or smaller) of a loved one that you would like to place on the Ofrenda. You may also contribute a small object ( 1.5"x1.5" or smaller) taped or glued to a 4x6" or smaller note card/paper that represents something about your loved one (or something he/she liked).

Please turn in pictures/objects starting Monday, and we will add to our Ofrenda throughout the week. Add the child's name and teacher to the back of the picture/card with the object so that we can return them once the Ofrenda is taken down.

***While we would love to ensure that all pictures are safely returned to you, a paper copy of the picture would be best as we don’t want anything to happen to anyone's original pictures. We can’t be responsible for pictures that might not make it back to you.***

Attendance, Health, and Safety Guidelines from the District Attendance, Health, and Safety Guidelines from the District

Flu Season Reminder: When to Keep Your Child Home

With flu season starting, we want to review our school’s illness guidelines to help keep everyone healthy and safe!

Attendance is very important! Being at school regularly helps students stay on track with their learning. However, staying home when sick helps prevent the spread of illness and protects our school community.

Please keep your child home if they:

  • Have a fever of 100.4°F or higher. Students may return after being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.

  • Have vomiting or diarrhea. Students may return 24 hours after the last episode.

Thank you for helping us prevent the spread of illness and keep our school community healthy. We appreciate your support!

TSD Cell Phone and Personal Device Policy

Thompson School District’s cell phone and personal technology device policy is designed to foster a supportive educational environment with fewer distractions for students. In general, once students enter a school building, their personal technology devices—including cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, laptops, cameras, and similar devices—must be put away and inaccessible unless a specific exception applies. Students at every grade level may only use personal devices when a teacher specifically authorizes them for instructional purposes or when required by an IEP, Section 504 Plan, medical need or emergency.

Elementary and Middle Schools

Students are generally not allowed to use personal devices at any point during the school day while on campus, including before school, passing periods, lunch, and after school.
