Dear KRS families,

What a busy week! So many great events and activities!

Reading Night was a great success! Thank you to all our fantastic teacher and guest readers. The PTO made the night extra special with ice cream and festive decorations. Mrs. DeFreitas, Ms. Wessling, and Ms. Gabriel were welcoming greeters to all the families who attended the Reading Night.

The Meet the Masters Art Show was unbelievably amazing! Congratulations to the student artists for their exceptional artistic pieces. Thank you to parent Joy Suprano for her leadership of the phenomenal program and to the many other parent volunteers. In addition to the art show at night, the students also enjoyed the art show during the school day.

Green Week was a week of extensive "Green" related information. Students learned about environmental facts from the third graders during the morning announcements and from lunch supervisors during lunch times. We had so much fun learning from one another.

It was also International Week! Thank you to Miss Bihuniak for planning an inclusive and informative week for the students. Great thanks to the KRS family volunteers for sharing their cultures and traditions with the students, teachers, and staff.

Congratulations to the fourth graders for their excellent wax museum presentations! The students' presentations were interesting, engaging, and full of information about the lives of famous and influential individuals.

Approximately fourteen children of KRS educators visited KRS on Take Your Child to Work Day. It was such a pleasure to see the happiness in the teachers' faces as they proudly and excitedly interacted with their children of various ages.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kathy Koop

Greetings from the STEAM Lab!

Kindergarten and First grade students used (variations of) the Engineering Design Process to do a Frog on a Log Challenge. Students could only use one sheet of paper to make a “log” to lay across a bowl of water that could hold at least 6 frogs (marbles). They made a plan, built, tested, and improved a design to meet the challenge.

Second grade students are beginning a project about seeds using the Engineering Design Process. They learned that seeds travel by wind, water, and attach to animals. They began planning ways they could adapt, or change, a seed that cannot naturally travel by wind, water, or attach to animals. They will then make those adaptations and test their plans.

Third grade students are beginning a Robotics and Coding unit. They will be building a gear robot and coding the robot to move forward, backwards, left, and right.

Fourth grade students are beginning a Makey Makey/Scratch Unit. Students will use Makey Makeys, which is a USB input device that allows users to invent projects using water and other conductive objects. Students will create a water piano using the Makey Makey and use Scratch to code the keys to play music.

Fifth grade students finished their Unit on Tinkercad and will be bringing their 3D printed crests home.

Fifth Grade Celebration Ceremony - June 14, 2024 9:30 AM

The KRS Class of 2024 Fifth Grade Celebration Ceremony will take place on June 14, 2024 at 9:30 AM on the black-top behind the school. The ceremony will focus on celebrating every KRS fifth grader as special, contributing, individuals. The ceremony will last approximately 1 hour and the fifth graders are expected to remain at school for the duration of the school day.

This year on the day of the Fifth Grade Celebration, we have a very special afternoon planned for our soon to be sixth graders. With great thanks to the KRS PTO, Coach Stroker will visit to speak to the fifth graders. Coach Stroker is an excellent inspirational speaker for children and adults. We are thrilled that he will be presenting to inspire and empower the fifth graders as they prepare to transition into the next chapter of their educational journeys.

We are looking forward to celebrating our 2024 Fifth Grade Class!
