Showing children how to be active and healthy adults begins early and helping kids to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle and developing healthy habits have benefits that will last a lifetime.

Check out these resources for in the classroom and at home!

Read, Read, Read!

Students that read at home each day have larger vocabularies, better fluency, and higher comprehension. When your child is finished with their nightly reading, further their literacy learning utilizing the infographic below.

Leaf a Trail

Take a family walk on a trail. Collect different leaves. Have your child sort the leaves by color, shape, or size. Afterwards, create a graph similar to the one below. Then discuss what needs to be added to a graph.

Jump Into Science

More than ever, we need to wash our hands! Try this fun experiment at home to teach your child about germs!
How Clean Are Your Hands?

How Clean Are Your Hands?

After spending some time at the playground, soccer field, or in the backyard, it can be easy to see the dirt on our hands. What you can't see are the invisible-to-your-eye germs that accumulate on your hands throughout the day.

Let's Write!

Use these prompts to engage in thinking, discussions and journaling at home:

How can I show gratitude?

What are some creative ways you can give to others this year?

What traditions does your family have?

Encourage your child to discuss the above questions. If you have a journal or notebook available, ask them to write their thoughts. If your child is not ready to write, they can draw a picture and label it. Tell them to say the words slowly and write what they hear. If they misspell a word, that's ok! You can show them what the word looks like.

Learning the ABC's

For our younger students, learning to read can feel tricky. Supporting their learning at home will accelerate their learning, and help them to feel confident at school. Knowing letters is one of the first steps in becoming a reader, and it is an important skill that takes practice! If you have (or can make) playdough at home, use these mats as a guide to letter learning. Have your child make each letter using playdough and say the name and sound. For an extra boost, have them give you a word that starts with the letter. Make this a fun after dinner pastime.
