OCHS Principal's Update
August 2025
Welcome Back OCHS!
It is a pleasure to welcome you back to the 2-25-26 school year! Thank you for trusting our staff to educate your child this year! You will see a number of resources and opportunities for you and your family throughout this newsletter. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call the OCHS Office at (402) 685-5661 or email me at mburton@ocknights.org.
Have a great rest of the summer. We will see you soon at O-C!
Mrs. Burton
Event Information
All incoming OCHS 7th graders and their parents are asked to attend the 7th Grade Orientation Night! Students are also welcome to bring their school supplies as they will be able to visit their lockers and take a tour of the building with high school student council members. Staff will be available to collect technology fees, as well!
Pickup and Drop Off at OCHS
In order to keep a safe pickup and drop off experience for students, we ask that no parents drop off or pick up along Highway 77 before or after school. Instead, we ask that all students be dropped off along the Davis Street entrance before 8:10 a.m. on school days. We also ask that parents pick up on Davis Street or the Lutheran Church parking lot after school.
All students that are legally permitted to drive to school must park in the designated student parking lot to the west of the elementary school and along the second row on the north side of the elementary school. Thank you for your help making OCHS a safe experience for our students and staff!

ACT - When Should My Student Test and Other Important Information
The ACT is an important measure of academic ability in a student's life. All OCHS students take the ACT their junior year, as this is the Nebraska Department of Education's measurement of state ability in reading, writing, English, math, and science. In order to prepare for this test, we will be having all OCHS freshman take the ACT 8/9 test in place of the MAP assessment, sophomores continue to take the Pre-ACT and not take further MAP tests, and continue having juniors take the ACT. Each grade will take the test in the spring. We do also encourage students to take the test in the fall or winter of their junior year in order to prepare for the spring testing session. In addition, we offer a semester course specifically for ACT preparation in the spring semester. More information can be found about further ACT online preparation for your child by clicking the link below.
Fee waivers for the ACT are available to juniors and seniors who qualify to for free or reduced lunch. Please contact Annie Magnusson, School Counselor at amagnusson@ocknights.org for more information.
