School Spirit Week - Happening Now! School Spirit Week - Happening Now!

Our Student Ambassadors have planned a fun week for all of us and we’re excited to celebrate School Spirit Week with our Cedar Island community!

As part of the fun, students will have the option to dress up all week long. Please note the following guidelines to help the week go smoothly:

  • Participating in Spirit Week dress-up days is completely optional.
  • Spirit week gear/attire must be put on at home before coming to school. Teachers will not be helping students change into Spirit Week gear once they arrive at school.
  • For safety and comfort, please do not send Spirit Week-themed clothing or accessories that includes masks, face coverings, weapons, or anything that depicts violence. If attire contains any of these items, or anything that is not school-appropriate, the student will remove the item or be sent home for a change of clothes.
  • Spirit week gear must allow students to sit comfortably at their desks and participate in regular school activities throughout the day, including Phy. Ed.

As a parent, if you have questions about whether your child’s Spirit Week gear is appropriate, please contact Cedar Island staff in advance at
cedarisland@district279.org.

Our goal is to make this a fun and inclusive week for all students, whether they choose to participate in Spirit Week or not. Thursday’s all-school assembly will be a big part of that. Thank you for helping us keep the celebration positive, safe, and full of school spirit!

🦖 The Dinosaurs Are Here! 🤫

Get ready, parents! November is about to get a little wild and a whole lot mysterious here at school, thanks to a fun, month-long activity we're calling Dinovember.

The Mystery is Afoot!
Throughout the building, a few of our plastic dinosaur friends have come to life overnight and caused some playful, silly mischief! Your children will be looking for clues each day, based on the dinosaur posters in their classrooms and around the school, to figure out what antics the dinosaurs were up to while everyone was away.

It's a top-secret activity, but it's designed to spark big ideas:
Encouraging Curiosity: Students are practicing their observation skills by looking for small clues and trying to solve a daily mystery.
Fueling Imagination: The whole month is a celebration of wonder and creativity, inviting them to imagine what happens when toys come to life!
Promoting Reading: The grand finale of Dinovember is that every student will get to adopt their own dinosaur reading buddy to keep them company as they read throughout the year!

Conversation Starters for Home
We need your help to keep the excitement going! This is a perfect, fun topic to bring up at the dinner table or during the drive home.

Ask your child things like:

  • "Did you notice anything unusual in the school today? Any dinosaur clues?"
  • "If a T. rex could get into mischief in your classroom, what do you think they would do?"
  • "What kind of book do you think your future dinosaur-reading buddy will want to read first?"

We are thrilled to bring a little extra wonder and mystery to November, and we can’t wait to see the excitement on your child’s face as they hunt for the next clue!
