Year 3 at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park Year 3 at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park

On Tuesday, Year 3 enjoyed an inspiring art trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. They had a fantastic time exploring the sculptures with artist Puy, discovering how artists use shape, colour and perspective to express ideas.

Inspired by the abstract artwork in the park, the children created their own pieces of art. They explored hot and cold colour palettes and experimented with different perspectives to develop their creative ideas.

Year 3 impressed us with their thoughtful observations, enthusiastic participation and creativity throughout the day. Well done Year 3.

Year 1 visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Year 1 visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Year One have been on a school trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park this week. They had a super time looking at the animals and their habitats/enclosures. They saw lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras and so many more amazing animals. The favourite was definitely the polar bear!

Cross Country Success Cross Country Success

Back in March, cross country runners from Year 2, Year 3 and Year 6 entered the Sporting Influence cross country competition at Outwood School, competing against several other schools in the local area. After winning overall on the day, we were this week invited back to the finals of the competition, racing against the winners of other local clusters of schools.

All of the children performed brilliantly in the races, showing many of the Sporting Influence social skills, including determination, resilience and teamwork. It was fantastic to see the children cheering each other on, and also cheering for children from the other schools to encourage everyone to do their best. Each child who competed in a race scored a number of points for the team, and after all the points had been added together at the end, we are pleased to announce we finished in second place overall! Well done to all our runners!

In addition to the team prize, there were individual medals presented to children who finished in the top three places in each race. Well done to…

Alfie, who won the Y1/2 Boys race!

Henry, who came third in the Y1/2 Boys race!

Iris, who came second in the Y1/2 Girls race!

Primrose, who came third in the Y5/6 Girls race!

Well done also to six pupils who showed individual determination and resilience and were awarded a Sporting Influence wristband: Max, Lottie, Archie, Ruby, Sephy and Alfie.

Crucial Crew Crucial Crew

Last week, Year 6 visit Queen Ethelburga’s school alongside Year 5 and 6 pupils from a number of other local schools. The event was the annual Crucial Crew information morning, led by North Yorkshire police, which aims to raise awareness of a number of important safety and wellbeing issues for young people transitioning to high schools. The pupils learnt about keeping themselves safe in and around water, a key issue in Ripon with its many waterways. There were also talks about fire safety in the home, safety on the railways, online safety and the risks of smoking and vaping. There is more information about Crucial Crew, and an online game to check pupils’ understanding, at the following website: https://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/police-forces/north-yorkshire-police/areas/campaigns/campaigns/crucial-crew/

Open the Book Open the Book

Thank you to our friends at Open the Book, who visited school last week to tell the story of Pentecost, and the Holy Spirit coming down to be with Jesus’ followers. The children in the audience enjoyed joining in with the actions, including creating the sound effects of wind and fire, and Martha, Archie, Lexi, Isla and Zelda all enjoyed becoming actors for the morning to help to tell the story. Thank you, as always, to Irene and the team at Open the Book for bringing another significant story to life.
