Second Step

This weeks lesson helps children improve their ability to identify anger in themselves and others. This skill provides a foundation for Unit 3: Emotion Management. Being able to read the feelings of others and identify their own feelings accurately is especially important for children who interact in an aggressive manner. Some of the lesson concepts included... everyone feels angry sometime and it is not okay to be mean or hurt others when you feel angry.

Children will be able to:

1. Identify the feeling mad/angry when presented with physical clues...stamping you feet, arms crossed.

2. Tell others about a time when they felt angry and we discuss why and how we felt better.

Small Group

This week we played 2 fun CT ELDS games. Both games included mathematical discovery in counting, writing numbers, classifying and data collection. On game is call rainbow counting. It had many steps to play. First you need to roll the dice. Once the dice was rolled you needed to count how many dots and match it to the cheat sheet. The cheat sheet had a color that you had to match. If you rolled a 3, you color a square with the color that matched. The game was over once you had the whole chart colored in. The children had to share the dice, take turns and help each other complete the rainbow. Another new game we learned was building cube tower by spinning the spinner and the number the arrow land on was how my cube blocks to add to the tower. If a child landed on 2, they would add 2 more cube blocks to the tower. We played this game on the carpet because our tower kept getting bigger and bigger! This game followed the CT ELDS for counting and measurement.

Scientific Inquiry! Scientific Inquiry!

A lot of things around us are changing and we are taking notice! Each time we go onto the playground we find thin pieces of ice on the bottom of our slide and our decaying pumpkin is starting to grow! We put parts of our pumpkin and some seeds in a container and over time we are observing how something can decay and regrow again!
