Hubbard Woods Family Newsletter
November 18, 2024
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
Thank you for taking the time in October, both in person with Dr. Tess for Leader Rounding and in November through the feedback link, to provide our school community with insights regarding what is working well, the challenges we face, and the support that is needed. Based on the data collected, here are the themes that emerged from our Hubbard Woods parent community.
Feedback from parents regarding what is working well:
1. Effective Communication: Direct communication between teachers and parents, weekly updates, and improved newsletters provide clarity, along with Go To School Night (GTSN).
2. Curriculum Focus: There is an increased emphasis on reading, writing, and math.
3. Positive School Culture: Classrooms foster a joyful atmosphere, and students benefit from buddy classes, where older and younger students develop supportive connections.
4. Holistic Education: Music education, including strings, and Kinetic Wellness, along with a focus on a growth mindset and respectful treatment of children.
Feedback from parents regarding challenges:
1. Communication and Clarity:
- Explanation of educational acronyms
- Inconsistent communication in some areas
- Difficulty in keeping up with information due to the volume of updates
- Parents require clearer explanations of assessment data, especially when it appears contradictory
- Communication regarding changes in state standards when they occur
2. Curriculum and Learning Support:
- Impact on older students not receiving new curricula
- Ensuring resources for advanced learners
3. Expectations placed on teachers with the new curricula
4. Playground delays
Feedback from parents on how we can be helpful:
1. Parent Education and Communication:
- Opportunities to learn about:
- Assessment data (e.g., OTUS results and acronyms)
- Progressive education
- Belonging and inclusivity
- Regular updates on curriculum and district priorities
2. Addressing the impacts of social media, anxiety management, and early intervention for K-4 students, along with tools like Wonder for managing smart devices.
3. Improving drop-off logistics during construction.
As a staff, we will review this data to determine our next steps as we strive for constant improvement to better serve the needs of our school community. We will communicate our plan of action in a Family Newsletter.
All the best,
Ivory Ajavon
Principal
