Student Recognition Committee
The Student Recognition Committee would like to introduce the idea of writing postcards to our students during your PLCs. As you all know, it is incredibly important for our students to feel seen and connected to at least one adult here at WWJH. In Tab’s Monday Message, she often quotes Rita Pierson stating, “Every child deserves a champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.”
We want to make sure every child here at Westwood not only has a champion, but knows they have a champion. You will find a GOOGLE SHEET with a list of each of our students, separated by grade. Please begin writing postcards to those students who may not know they have an adult in their corner. You will be able to put a check next to their name once that student has had a card sent to them. Our goal would be for all students to receive a card, but we realize we are getting a late start so let’s see how many we can capture. Once the cards have been written, please place them in the box provided and they will be mailed out weekly.
If you have any questions please see Angie Shields.
Thank you all for everything you continue to do to make Westwood the best!
New Attendance Secretary
We want to inform you that Janet is our new attendance secretary. While she transitions into this new role, we kindly ask that you take your attendance on time and as accurately as possible. 3rd/4th period attendance is time sensitive, this period is audited by the State. Attendance for this period is to be taken at 10:05am, no later than 10:10am. Any student that arrives after the cut off time of 10:10 is tardy. Teacher corrections can be submitted in the link below. For teacher corrections, if a student is tardy please state what time the student arrived to class.
- Ideally attendance should be taken 15-20 minutes after every period, you do have until the end of the day to complete attendance for any missed periods (3rd/4th is time sensitive)
- any student that arrives 20 minutes after the bell is to be marked tardy
- attendance that is left incomplete, can no longer be completed after the day is over.
We understand that attendance may sometimes be missed or mistakes may occur. Our goal as a school is to minimize edits or attendance taken out of the time frame, particularly for 3rd and 4th periods. Please remember that all edits and missed times will be reviewed and documented each time.
- Library News! -
Jennifer is working on her last book order for the library this year. If there’s any topic or specific book you think would be a good addition to our library, please let her know. It could be for your curriculum or just something you or the students would enjoy.
Thanks!
