Chelsea Center
Experiential Education Opportunities for ALL students
January 16, 2026
Upcoming Opportunities to Explore Engineering Careers
The Chelsea Center takes monthly group job shadow trips to a variety of industries and institutions aligned with the six “Pathways to Self-Discovery” designed to help students explore and pursue college and career pathways–Creative, Health, Building & Fixing, Business, Nature, and Helping. Within the next month, there are two opportunities for students to explore engineering careers.
All students are invited to join a group job shadow on January 29 to CDG Engineers. Whether students have a beginning interest in engineering, already know they want to pursue engineering as a career, or would like to expand their knowledge about what types of engineering exist--this trip is a perfect fit! The experience qualifies the student for A+ job shadow hours, has no cost, and includes a networking lunch with engineering professionals. Students sign up through their GivePulse accounts, then visit the Chelsea Center to receive permission slips.
CDG Engineers is a full service, multi-disciplinary professional services organization with capabilities in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering. Services they offer to their clients include planning, engineering & architectural design, and construction administration. CDG works in the fields of infrastructure, power, mining, and industrial. Students will meet with engineering professionals and experience elements of their daily job demands.
An additional experience designed to help students explore engineering is the upcoming Introduce a Girl to Engineering day February 28 sponsored by the SIUE Society of Women Engineers. While the Chelsea Center is not organizing a group trip to this Saturday event, we can verify A+ job shadow hours for students who attend. Students should also register for this event via GivePulse to ensure we can verify those A+ hours.
This event is designed for creative students who want to make a difference in the world to explore if engineering is a possible route to their goals. SIUE Society of Women Engineers presents the annual event to show young students that engineering is more than just being good at science and math. Join them on Saturday, February 28, 2026 from 8:30am - 3:30pm for a day of hands-on activities, making new friends, and having fun with engineering!
Students will hear from female engineers about their professional journeys, offering insight on what it means to be a woman in the field. They will also experience hands-on activities in different engineering fields including civil, electrical, mechanical, and industrial disciplines, plus computer science. Those activities are guided by female SIUE students enrolled in those specific fields of study. Students can also network professionally, learn about internships, and hear tips on what it takes to get your foot in the door at great employers! Lunch is provided free.
Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
