February 1, 2026

First, thank you to everyone who made soup and bread for the amazingly delicious soup week! The timing was perfect with cold weather outside and warm soup inside all week.
Please see below to sign up your 3rd or 4th grader for the new HSS free after school robotics club! We'd like to start a lego club afterschool, but we are in need of more legos so please drop off any old legos in the office.
We had an eventful spelling bee last week that stretched from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Below is a picture of our top three finishers:
Kenzie Letson - 1st
Noah Bayon - 2nd
Saanvi Shetya - 3rd
Kenzie will compete online later this month for a spot in the March New Hampshire state spelling bee in Manchester. Thank you to all the 3rd and 4th graders who studied and competed in the class and school bees.
And last, we need to ask that everyone drives as far into the express drop off loop as possible before stopping to drop off your children. We have extra cars when the weather is so cold and we're backing up traffic on to the road.
Thank you,
Leah Wheelan, Principal

Sign up for Robotics Club - Starts Feb. 11th
Join the Robotics Club!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Is your child ready to bring a tiny robot to life? HSS will be launching our after-school Robotics Club, designed specifically for our creative 3rd and 4th graders!
Using Ozobots—pocket-sized robots that pack a punch—students will dive into the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). These little bots follow lines and read "color codes," allowing students to learn the fundamentals of coding both on and off the screen!
📋 Club Details
When: Wednesdays
Time: 3:15 PM – 4:45 PM
Who: Open to all 3rd and 4th-grade students
🚀 What We’ll Do
Color Coding: Use markers to draw "OzoCodes," giving the robots commands like "nitro boost," "tornado spin," and "zigzag."
Block Coding (OzoBlockly): Level up to digital programming! We will use block-based coding on tablets to create complex logic, loops, and custom movements.
Problem Solving: Navigate complex mazes and overcome engineering challenges.
Teamwork: Collaborate with peers to program the bots to complete challenges.
📝 How to Sign Up
Spaces are limited to ensure every student has their own robot to work with. Students will be accepted to the club in the order of their sign up time. If your child is interested in becoming a junior coder, please sign up using the Google Form link below:
If your student is interested in joining, please sign up by February 7th. The club will start on Wednesday February 11.
NHMEA Elementary Honors choir
Congratulations to our students, Andy Smith, Chihiro Wiessburg and Winnie Rancourt who have been accepted into the NHMEA Elementary Honors Choir this spring! This exciting opportunity brings together talented young singers from across New Hampshire for a full day of music-making, culminating in a concert at the Grappone Center in Concord this April. This year, Lebanon is proud to be represented by 10 students in grades 4–6 participating in the Honors Choir. Congratulations to our students on this exciting opportunity to share their voices and represent Lebanon!
Spelling Bee
Our 3rd and 4th graders competed in the school wide spelling bee on January 28th and 29th.
First Place - Kenzie Letson
Second Place - Noah Bayan
Third Place - Saanvi Shetye

FLU VACCINES
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), this flu season is particularly fierce. Approximately 19 million Americans have come down with the flu, and people have died from the 2025 - 2026 flu season. Please remember, the flu vaccine does not prevent one from getting sick with the flu. According to the AAMC, the flu vaccine in a good year protects one about 60 - 65% from getting the virus. For now please stay home with signs of illness, wash hands frequently, and consider wearing a mask to keep others in school and the community healthy and safe. It’s still not too late to get the flu vaccine!
And remember . . . less than 2 months until the first day of spring!
IMMUNZATIONS
Recently there has been a lot of information about recommended immunizations, and undoubtedly this can lead to a feeling of overwhelm and confusion. Despite changes that are taking place at the national level, NH and VT Department of Health and Human Services will continue to recommend that providers continue to follow the immunization schedules set forth by The American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Family Physicians. These agencies base their recommendation on evidence based practice designed to keep our community healthy and safe.
Should I test if I get sick? There are at-home flu tests that one can easily purchase for around $20. Although it is not required for school attendance, one may elect to test for the flu (or COVID) to determine best treatment options.
If I test positive for the flu, what should I do? First, one should stay home to rest and recover! In addition, although masks are no longer required to attend school when sick with a virus, it is something to consider if there is a lot of coughing or sneezing (and no fever). The flu virus can be treated with an antiviral medication. Many have heard of Tamiflu, a medication that can be used to block the actions of the virus in the body. It must be used within 48 hours of diagnosis, so it is a good idea to consult with your medical provider.
For a more in depth review of the immunization recommendations, please consult the following site: https://vaxintegrity.cidrap.umn.edu/evidence-reviews. As always, consult your child’s medical provider for questions, concerns, or clarifications.
And remember . . . the first day of spring is March 20!! 🌻☀️
