Principals' Message
Dear SCS Families, Caregivers, and Shelburne Community,
One of our most important shared goals at Shelburne Community School is to ensure that every student feels a deep sense of safety, belonging, and connection. This work involves fostering not only physical safety, but also the emotional and social well-being that allows our students to thrive as both learners and community members. To lay this foundation, we intentionally spend the first six weeks of school creating opportunities for teams to find joy and gathering each child's hopes to help guide our year together. Through these efforts, we proudly align with CVSD’s core vision: creating relationships that matter, learning that inspires, and impact that lasts for every learner.
To honor our educators' dedication and foster a strong sense of belonging, our staff meetings intentionally include time for colleagues to connect, reflect, and share gratitude. This tradition highlights personal milestones, celebrates everyday acts of support, and reinforces the importance of work-life balance—building a deep network of mutual care across our school.
We invite you to join this practice by sending a note to any Shelburne Community School staff member to acknowledge their work, celebrate a success, or simply connect. Even a small gesture helps strengthen the fabric of connection and community that supports us all.
One note of appreciation to all of you - we appreciate the effort made to reduce our chronic absenteeism data. Attendance is at 97% this year!! By being present, we can build regulating routines and relationships that last throughout the year.
In Partnership,
Jen, Brett and Tania

PreK-4 Open House
Wednesday, 9/30 5:00 - 6:00 pm
The annual SCS PreK-4th grade Open House is Wednesday. You may arrive anytime in that window between 5:00 - 6:00 pm and will have the opportunity to explore your child's classroom, EA classes, and tour the school. Let your students be your tour guide! While teachers may have information about curriculum or learning goals, you won’t find any presentations, so they can better support the ebb and flow of caregivers and students moving in and out of classrooms to explore and connect!
With Shelburne Rec soccer and Part 2 pickups taking place, parking will likely be tricky. Please try to park on the School Street side of the building and in Davis Circle if possible. We’ll have someone at the School Street doors to let you in. Parking at the town center and walking is always an option as well.
School Photo Order Forms
📸 Approximately two weeks after your portrait day your child will bring home a personally customized order form.
📸 There will be 5-6 different poses of your child on the envelope to choose from. Prints or packages can be purchased of multiple poses; there is no need to pick just one!📸 Makeup Day is Tuesday, October 13 for any student who missed the first session or would like their portraits retaken at no additional charge.
📸 Sibling Photo Day is on Sunday, November 15th from 9:00 am - 11:00 am in the SCS Breezeway
📸 Contact Jen Marx (jmarx@cvsdvt.org, 383-1102) with any photo day questions.
