Welcome Back!
August 23, 2024

Hello Brown School Families,
Welcome back!!! The first 7 days are in the books and the fun has just begun! Teachers and staff members have been working hard to help students acclimate to a new classroom, new friends, and the many procedures to follow each year. It might seem like we are spending a long time on these things, and we are. The development of routines and procedures is probably the most important thing we do to ensure students have a year where they feel confident, comfortable and successful. We use the Responsive Classroom approach and teach these procedures very explicitly with lots of student engagement. We appreciate your understanding while we take this time to lay the groundwork for a positive and successful year.
In addition to teaching and practicing routines and procedures in the classrroom, we are also developing our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This involves us all working together to meet our goals as a school, as classrooms and as individuals. Check out Mr. Manfredi's PBIS section below for more information.
We are looking forward to meeting you all at Open House on Thursday, Sept. 25! We will be sending the details about the evening shortly, but for now, be sure to save the date!
Lots more information below regarding: PBIS, Reminders, School Photos, PTO News, and Upcoming Events and Dates!
It's great to be back!
Mary
What is PBIS?
Be Safe-Be Kind-Be Brave-Be Ready to Learn
At The Brown School, we are committed to creating a supportive and productive learning environment through our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative. PBIS focuses on teaching and celebrating positive behaviors. It starts with establishing common language and expectations. At the Brown School: Be Brave, Be Kind, Be Safe, and Be Ready to Learn are the expectations that have been established to help every student succeed academically and socially.
PBIS also firmly believes in "maintaining regular communication with families, and ensuring that families have opportunities to share information and feedback, receive positive news, and proactively problem solve challenges consistent with their language/ communication preferences".
Keep an eye on this section for updates on our school's PBIS events, student recognition programs, and ways we are all working together to build a strong and positive school culture.
Tips for getting kids back to their school routine and supporting PBIS at Home:
Using positive words and acknowledgments meeting expectations
Set routines and expectations at home
Model these expectations for your child
Teach, remind, and reward expected behaviors with positive feedback
Together, we can help our kids be confident and successful children!
Please Be Patient-We're Just Being Safe
We are proud to be familiar with so many families at the Brown School. Many of your faces we recognize right away when you come into our office to dismiss your child. Unfortunately, with 450 students, we don't always recognize or remember all 900+ parents and relatives.
Please be patient if we ask to see you identification and/or details for an early dismissal. We are just doing our best to make sure everyone is safe.
*Also, if you have any new legal documents, custody agreements, or information we need to help us assure your child's dismissal procedures are up to date, please be sure to upload the documents to Aspen or drop off a copy in the office. Many thanks!
