March Student of the Month

Throughout the year, the staff at HHS nominates and votes for students to be the Student of the Month. The Hopkinton High School March Student of the Month winner is 12th grader Holly Paharik.

Here are some of the things the staff had to say about Holly:

- Holly is an amazing student, person and athlete. She is the true definition of a Hiller. Holly has an amazing work ethic, a great attitude and a unique ability to focus in the classroom under any conditions. Even as a second semester senior, she is still working hard to understand materials and working with her peers to learn and grow. When I think of the model student, it is Holly. I am amazed that she has not won this award before, as she surely deserves it as a captain on the court, on the field and a leader in the classroom.

- Holly is one of the best kids I have ever had the pleasure of working with. What is so challenging about writing her a student of the month nomination is that she could be student of the month every month. She is an excellent leader, a great friend, and an incredibly important part of the HHS community. I can think of no person more deserving of this honor.

- Holly is one of the kindest students at HHS: she is a top-tier athlete, she won a Scholastic award for writing this year, she constantly turns out high quality work in class, and she seems to be able to get along with just about everyone. Really nice.

- Holly is one of those rare individuals that is exemplary at nearly anything she puts her mind to doing well, and there is a whole range of things that she puts her mind to doing with excellent results. Having had the chance to be her teacher at the beginning and ending of high school has only amplified the accolades. Holly really is a unicorn among students.

- Holly is a very special girl. She is one of the kindest, most genuine human beings that I have had the pleasure of meeting. She is a true leader, and cares as much for others as she cares for herself.

- Holly is a role model for her peers as a student, athlete, and leader. When I think of "What's a Hiller?", I think of Holly Paharik.

- Holly is a caring peer, confident leader, and always putting in the work to be the best that she can be.

- Holly is such a positive leader in our school. She radiates a positive energy and enthusiasm for being here, being a Hiller and being fully engaged in her classes, her teams and part of our school community. She is an excellent role model and will be sorely missed next year!

A big congrats to Holly on winning this award! And thank you to the HPTO and ReMax for sponsoring this award!

Congressional Art Competitions

Each spring, the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide, high school art competition: the Congressional Art Competition. Since its inception in 1982, this competition has provided a unique opportunity for high school students from across the U.S.—and the Second Congressional District—to showcase their artistic talents. With over 650,000 students having participated in the last 40 years, the Congressional Art Competition has continued to be a wonderful opportunity to recognize and encourage the talents of students from across the country.

The Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by my office, is open to all high school students attending a high school located in the Second Congressional District of Massachusetts. The winner of our District's competition will have their artwork displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork of other district competition winners from around the country. The national reception will be held in Washington, D.C. on June 11, 2025 (more details to follow).

Art will be judged in the following categories:

• Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc.

• Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that

charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.)

• Collages: must be two dimensional

• Prints: lithographs, silkscreen, block prints

• Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc.

• Computer-generated art

• Photographs

Students should bring in all of their prepared artwork and completed forms to Mrs. Gianino no later than April 15th by 2:25pm to ensure proper delivery to the congressional office.

Sox for Socks Drive

For people experiencing homelessness, the need for new, white socks is critical. Spending hours on their feet, with walking as their primary mode of transportation, and being exposed to extreme weather conditions, too often, the people served by BHCHP face painful infections and avoidable health complications when unable to access new, clean socks. Each day, BHCHP relies on donations of new, white socks to distribute to more than 10,000 patients. By participating in this sock drive, you will be providing patients with a basic essential to protect their health and giving them the gift of comfort and dignity.

  • Donate New White Socks to donation bins at any school, just look for our donation box at the entrance.
  • Donate by Venmo to @DianneJ10 with “Sox for Socks” in the message tab.
  • We will be collecting until June 10th
  • We will deliver all the New, White Socks to Fenway in August.

Parents - The high school is looking for community members who may be interested in helping with the proctoring of this year's Advanced Placement tests. There will be staff administering the tests but proctors are needed to circulate, help collect tests, etc.
