Principal Update 12/9/24

Good Morning Memorial Families,

We are in the midst of a busy time at school and I'm sure in everyone's personal lives as well. I hope that you have been able to enjoy the moments of the season and that you are finding opportunities to be together and celebrate all that December brings.

This coming week our students will be engaging in our second all school writing prompt of the year. We are really excited to witness all of the growth in our student writing this year and look forward to seeing how we are all progressing. This prompt is an opinion write, and students from grades K through 4 will engage with the prompt in different ways. In kindergarten, by the end of the year, students are expected to be able to formulate an opinion and through a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing, express their opinion. It is amazing how many of our kindergarten students are already able to formulate a complete sentence and some are able to write it on their own. By the time students get to fourth grade, we expect that by the end of the year they are able to develop their opinion into a multiple paragraph essay, supporting their unique point of view with reasons and examples. After administering the writing task to all students, we will look at the progress of students in our grade level meetings next week to determine what the next steps are in instruction. We are looking forward to seeing how much growth your children have made since September.

There is a lot going on in and out of school over the next two weeks. If you haven't thought about attending the Passport to the Holidays event this Friday evening, please check out the flier below!

Warmly,

Wendy
