Things to Know:

Memorial School Open House is Tuesday, September 16th from 6:15 - 7:15 pm.

We are excited to invite all families—caregivers, students, and siblings—to come together for this special community event. Families should travel around the school together during this event. Open House is your opportunity to meet our teachers, tour the school, and connect with many members of our Memorial family.

This year, we are hosting the entire event in one evening. That means you’ll have access not only to your child’s classroom teachers but also to our specialists, related service providers, and special education staff—all in one convenient visit.

The Open House is designed for you to arrive and leave at your own pace once you’ve visited classrooms and greeted teachers. Please note, this evening is not for personal conferences. Those meaningful conversations about your child’s progress will take place during conferences in early November.

We’re also excited to welcome community members from local Scout groups, Natick 180, SEPAC, and the Morse Institute Library who will be on campus during Open House. Feel free to stop by their tables to learn more about their programs and opportunities. You can even sign up for a library card at the library’s table. These groups are wonderful resources for families, and we encourage you to take advantage of what they have to offer.

We hope this helps you plan your visit with confidence. Thank you for being a vital part of the Memorial community—we look forward to seeing you!

Active Kids is back!

We are looking forward to another Fall season of the ACTIVE KIDS PROGRAM. Registration will not be accepted electronically. The registration form must be printed, filled out, and returned with payment (check) to the front office at Memorial for each student registering. Please make note that space is limited, and the class will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be sure to read over the registration letter attached with more of the program's details and deadline. Please DO NOT send your registration by email to the office staff, Ms. Pascarelli or Mrs. Squair. Completed forms will not be accepted that way. Thank you for following this protocol.

Transportation Update for Bus Riders:

If your bus student will be changing the bus stop on their route home, parents must communicate this change with Robin Agostinelli-Solivan in our Transportation department. If the intended change is not communicated, bus drivers will not allow students to get off the bus unless it is in their regular stop. Ms. Agostinelli-Solivan can be reached at ragostinellisolivan@natickps.org.

Principal Read Aloud: Not Perfect by Maya Myers

I have had the opportunity to visit all of our classrooms to meet students and share this simple, yet important story. This year's pick is Not Perfect by Maya Myers. It is a story about Dot, who is not perfect at anything and her quest to be perfect. The message of perseverance and effort are relatable across all of the grades. It aligns with our S.P.A.R.K. values and models that we can do hard things when we try.

Bus Talks

This week Mr. Marra and I met with all bus riders to review what a successful bus ride looks like and sounds like. Our students did a great job articulating what "good" feels like on the bus. We created bus posters as reminders for everyone to follow our core values and make good choices. They are being finished now and we hope to hand them out to drivers early next week. Here is a copy for you to review at home. Thanks for partnering with us to make sure that everyone has a safe ride to and frm school.

Dear Memorial School Families,

As the new Principal, I am excited to partner with you in creating the best possible learning environment for our students. Your insights and perspectives are invaluable to me as we begin our work together. I invite you to share your thoughts through the Start-Stop-Continue protocol—letting me know what you think we should start doing, stop doing, and continue doing at Memorial School. The feedback form is open now and will remain active through September 26, 2025. Thank you for helping shape our school’s future!

NOTES FROM OUR NURSE: MRS. LEBLANC

Please take a moment to review information on the NPS Health Services website about Lice:

https://www.natickps.org/page/head-lice

The results of several descriptive studies have suggested that education of parents in diagnosing and managing head lice may be helpful.80,–83 Parents can be encouraged to check their children’s heads for lice regularly and if the child is symptomatic. School screenings do not take the place of these more careful parental checks.13,84,–86 (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2022)

HOW TO CHECK FOR LICE:

https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/resources/pdf/HeadLiceFlyer.pdf

YEARLY REQUIRED SCHOOL HEALTH SCREENINGS:

All school health screenings are required by Massachusetts state law.

Kindergarten hearing and vision screenings will begin in September and all other screenings will be completed throughout the school year. Parents/guardians may request, in writing, that their student not participate in a specific screening, and such opt-out requests must be submitted annually. Please send a hard copy to the clinic or email the school nurse as soon as possible if you wish to opt your child out of any school screenings: mleblanc@natickps.org

Here is information about which screenings your child will have this year:
