Schools will administer the West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) to students in Grades 3-8. The WVASA will be administered to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities in Grades 3-8 & 11.

All students will take the English Language Arts (ELA), reading, writing, and mathematics portions of the test. Students Grades 5 and 8 will take the science test, and 11th Grade students taking the WVASA will also complete the science portion.

The district test window is April 28-May 23, 2025, and varies by grade level. Check with your school for specific grade level testing dates.

Why is Testing So Important? Why is Testing So Important?

The WVGSA/WVASA provides important information that can be used to help improve instruction for each individual student. Results from the assessment can help teachers and school administrators pinpoint areas of strengths and weaknesses and identify possible achievement gaps to help teachers adjust instruction for each student.

We encourage your student to perform to the best of their ability on the test this spring.
