This is the final week of formal examinations for Year 11 and Year 13. Sitting GCSE and A-level examinations is one of the most demanding and challenging times in a young person's life. We want to congratulate all our students for demonstrating courageous optimism and resilience, and for working incredibly hard during this period.

We hope they all enjoy a well earned rest and have a fantastic time during their long summer break. We also look forward to celebrating with them at the Year 11 prom and the Year 13 Leavers' Day and again when the results are published.

We will write to students and parents/ carers shortly about the plans for the Results Days and the enrolment for the Sixth Form.

Gallows Corner Roadworks

As you are no doubt aware, from 21:00 on Monday 23rd June, Gallows Corner junction, both roundabout and flyover, will be closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles, black cabs and TfL buses. We understand that this closure may cause significant disruption to travel routes and morning routines for many of our families and staff.

As a result, and in recognition of the potential delays this may cause, we will temporarily pause after-school detentions for lateness to school from Monday 23rd June. This measure will remain in place until the Gallows Corner junction has reopened and normal travel patterns resume.

While detentions will be paused, we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your daughter makes every reasonable effort to arrive at school on time. Please also ensure she is fully aware of the Gallows Corner closure and plans her journey accordingly, leaving additional time where possible.

We appreciate your continued cooperation and understanding during this period. Should you have any concerns or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

If you wish to find out more information about the planned roadworks including diversion routes, please visit https://tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/major-works-and-events/gallows-corner-flyover-works?intcmp=55244

Uniform Reminder – Working Together for High Standards Uniform Reminder – Working Together for High Standards

We would like to thank all our parents and carers for your continued support in helping us maintain high standards at school, including our uniform expectations. A smart, consistent uniform helps promote a sense of belonging, pride in our school community and discipline.

Recently, we have noticed some variations in uniform that we would like to address. In particular, students should only wear black or white headscarves, in line with our school policy. We have also seen some students wearing black leggings or flares, which are not part of the approved uniform. Please note that only FBA black trousers are permitted.

We understand there may be individual circumstances, and we are here to support you. If you have any concerns or need assistance regarding uniform, please speak with your daughter’s form tutor in the first instance so we can work together to find a solution.

Thank you for helping us ensure that all students are ready to learn and represent the school positively.

You can find our uniform policy below

Meet our Student Leader in charge of Charity - Sophie P

As senior prefect of Charity, my team and I strive to fundraise for charities and organisations which are at the heart of our lives, and mean a lot to us as a student body. We want to shine a light on how people can help worthy causes, and get involved through youth ambassadorships, as well as uniting students together to create a more giving and charitable school community.

As a team we are planning lots of different events to raise awareness and money to support a range of charities. We are currently working with the Student Leaders of Mental Health to organise an ice bucket event on Sports Day!

Year 12 Elephant Group

Last week, FBA Sixth Form welcomed a representative from The Elephant Group to deliver an insightful briefing to our Year 12 students. The session focused on university personal statements- what to include, how to structure them, and the recent changes to the layout. Students were encouraged to begin drafting their statements and start thinking seriously about their passions, interests, and future aspirations. It was a valuable opportunity to get ahead and understand what they would like to do in the future

Health and Fitness Tip Health and Fitness Tip

zoom_out_map

✨ This week’s tip comes from Year 11 Sports Captains Amy and May:

“Eat more starchy carbohydrates and healthy unsaturated fats, while reducing your intake of sugary carbohydrates and saturated fats.”

🔸 What does “saturated” fats mean?

Saturated fats are commonly found in processed meats, fried foods, cakes, pastries, and similar items. Consuming these in high amounts regularly can raise cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart problems later in life.

Instead, try to choose unsaturated fats, which are healthier for your body. They help lower levels of “bad” cholesterol and support both heart and brain health. Unsaturated fats can be found in foods like avocados, nuts, seeds, and olive oil.

🔸 What carbs should I eat?

Not all carbohydrates are equal. Sugary carbs – like sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks, cake and even white bread give you quick energy but then lead to a crash, leaving you feeling tired or sluggish.

Instead, base your meals on starchy carbohydrates like wholemeal pasta, brown rice and bread, oats, and potatoes (especially with the skin on!). These break down slowly in your body, giving you steady energy throughout the day – perfect for lessons, revision, and staying active!

Eating in this way can help with concentration, keep your mood stable, and fuel your body properly for sports and everyday movement. It’s not about cutting out treats completely, but just being more mindful of what fuels your body best.

Inspirational Woman of the Week

Our inspirational woman of the week is Ella Toone as nominated by Emily C in 10F. Ella Toone is an English professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Manchester United and the England national team. She began her football journey at Astley & Tyldesley FC before joining Manchester United's youth academy at the age of eight. Toone has represented England at various youth levels and was part of the victorious UEFA Women's Euro 2022 team, scoring in the final against Germany. In 2023, she became the first England player to score in a quarter-final, semi-final, and final of a major international tournament. Beyond her on-field achievements, Toone is an advocate for women's sports and has launched her own brand, ET7, aiming to inspire young women to pursue their passions and break barriers in sports

Coach Miles trip to Thorpe Park

Throughout the year, students earn coach miles by taking part in extra curricular sporting clubs and fixtures which gets them the opportunity to go on the annual trip to Thorpe Park which is organised by the PE Department.

We hope the students had a great time and the teachers bravely supervised the bags whilst students went on the rides :)

Thank you to the PE Department for their commitment to running clubs and fixtures and for organising the trip.

Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition

Recently, a group of nearly 30 students travelled to Danbury in Essex to take part in a practice expedition for their Bronze Award. The weather was somewhat challenging especially on the Saturday night when sleeping in tents; however, the students were excellent and spirits remained high.

Well done to all the students who took part and thank you to Mrs Cambridge, Mr Wheadon, Miss Belcher, Mr Burrows and Miss Williams for giving up their weekend to provide this opportunity for the students.

Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 students should be all set for their work experience which starts next week. (23rd – 27th). Your daughter needs to see Mrs Celisse in Sixth Form if she needs any help – especially if she is still unsure about logging your placement on Unifrog by the end of this week . A list of contact details for previous placements has been shared on Show My Homework.

If students have not organised a placement then they will be expected to be in school each day.

Personal Development Day 3

The third Personal Development Day will take place on Monday 23rd June. The students will take part in the following activities:

Year 7 - Trip to Hever Castle

Year 8 - Forensics Day at FBA

Farm update Farm update

zoom_out_map

The weather has been somewhat changeable; however, this week heralds the official start of summer. Summer solstice, also known as midsummer, is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. This year, it will fall on Saturday 21st with 16 hours and 33 minutes of daylight here in the UK.

The solstice officially marks the beginning of the astronomical summer, which ends when the autumn equinox falls on September 22. Day and night will be at almost equal length on this date, as the sun crosses the celestial equator and moves southward into the northern hemisphere. There are two solstices each year - one in the winter and one in the summer. The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of earth's axis is most inclined towards the sun and is directly above the Tropic of Cancer. Traditionally, the summer solstice period fell between the planting and harvesting of crops, leaving people who worked the land time to relax. Our animals here at the farm have been relaxing in the sun when it appears - come and visit our animals and birds; we are open every break and lunch time, and after school until 4pm on Monday – Thursdays, and before school from 7.50-8.25am on Fridays.
