Principal's Update
Dear Parkview Families,
Next week marks the beginning of the “-ber” months, and our staff and students are ready to get into (what i feel like) is the best part of the year. This past week, It has been wonderful visiting classrooms as teachers and students settle into their routines and begin focusing on new concepts and skills. Around campus, I saw second graders writing paragraphs with their new writing program, fifth graders learning about linking verbs, and third graders creating dinosaur fossils out of salt dough and baking them in solar ovens. Outside, students have also been learning and following the rules of Gaga Ball!
We have another exciting week ahead. Our GROWN Gardening Program begins on Monday, and Otter Pop Friday returns on September 4. Students will be able to purchase an Otter Pop during lunch using their PAW Bucks.
Our first PTO General Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the MPR. We would love to see you there! Attending PTO meetings is a great way to learn what is happening on campus, connect with other families, and discover ways you can help make Parkview a place where our kids really want to be.
Also, please remember to vote for our School Site Council representatives using the ballot included in this newsletter. Your participation helps ensure that families have a voice in the decisions and priorities that shape our school.
Finally, we are excited to kick off our Panther Prowl fundraiser. This is our school's main fundraiser and it will culminate in a super fun Jog-A-Thon on September 25 in the morning. Chico State Athletes come to cheer on our runners, as students run or jog along tracks marked off on our field. Our goal this year is to raise $45,000 dollars to support our students throughout the year. Every student will be given a headband the ay of to raise school spirit. Core Value of the Month - Compassion
The Core Essential Value for September is Compassion: caring enough to do something about someone else's needs. Counselors will teach lessons about what it means to be compassionate and a student from each class will be recognized as Student of the Month for demonstrating compassion and recieve recognition with a special lunch with Mrs. Cunniff.
Every month, Parkview focuses on a value word or “Big Idea” to instill core values in students, fostering good citizenship, positive relationships, and academic success. The monthly value of September is compassion. As your family settles into the busy rhythm of being back at school, take a few moments to talk with your child about the value of compassion: caring enough to do something about someone else’s needs. Throughout September, teachers will be looking for students who put compassion into action as they consider their Student of the Month selections.
Ask your child:
- What are some signs that someone might need help, even if they don’t ask for it?
- What is one small thing you could do this week to make someone else’s day a little better?
Share with your child:
- A time when a small act of kindness or compassion made a difference for you.
- A reminder that compassion doesn’t always mean fixing someone’s problem—it can be as simple as listening, including someone, offering encouragement, or noticing when someone needs a little kindness.

Welcome Message From PTO President, Michelle Morris
Welcome to a new school year! The Parkview Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) supports our teachers and staff by fundraising and hosting events to enhance the in and out of classroom student experience and to build community among families. Last year we raised over $72,000 and funded field trips, 5th Grade Adventure Week, the October Harvest Festival, and supported the STEM Lab, Library, and Wellness Center.
Save the date for our first general PTO meeting, Thursday, September 3, 6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room (MPR), and stay tuned for information about our September fall fundraiser, the Panther Prowl Jog-a-thon. We are still accepting Panther Prowl business sponsors if you’d like your business logo on this year’s t-shirt. Have a great week.
Encontrarás información en inglés y español sobre los eventos de PTO en los folletos colocados fuera de la escuela.

Our MPR is open at 6:45 for students who need before school care. Students do not need to register in advance. Breakfast is served starting at 7:45 and ends at 8:15. Gates open at 8:05 for students to head to classrooms, put their backpacks down, and then walk to the playground. Any parent wishing to assist their child with breakfast or sit with them while they eat, will need to check in the office and go to the wellness center, which opens at 7:45 AM.
