Thank you for everyone who scheduled their one-on-one conference with me. Having the opportunity to listen and learn from each of you helped me see Pin Oak through your eyes. I truly believe that the success of Pin Oak will be based on forming quality relationships with each other, communicating early and often, and doing our best to work as a team to provide and prepare our students for success beyond their middle school years.
Over the last several weeks I've met with the members serving of the Principal's Advisory Committee. Conversations have centered around social & emotional learning and campus wide systems and procedures. This committee is open to any faculty and staff member who wants to participate. My only requirement is all members must be open-minded, value shared decision making, and passionate about equity and excellence for all kids. With that begin said, the committee has been focused on several key initiatives.
Safety! We have a projected enrollment of 1277 for the 21-22 school year with 110+ staff members, which means we are a small town within our school walls. In order to ensue that we are taking care and safely accounting for ALL our Chargers, I am requiring every staff member and student to wear their lanyard/ID combo everyday! ID's provide every staff member immediate identification of our students and staff, helps streamline and speed up lunch lines, will be used to scan and track students who attend tutorials (morning/ after school), it is their ticket to participate in extra "perks" that we roll out throughout the year for our students. I understand this is NOT going to be a popular change for some, but as the person that is in charge with keeping 1387 Chargers safe and accounted for each day, I find it necessary. Please help me keep all adults and students as safe as possible by supporting this initiative. I will ensure that each adult and student has a lanyard and ID to start the year off with. WE will expect every Charger to have their lanyard with POMS ID around their neck and visible each and every day. If a student loses their lanyard and/or ID they will be required to purchase another one.
