Message from the Executive Director
Monday, January 5, 2026
Dear GLOBE community,
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a restful winter break. We look forward to welcoming students back to campus tomorrow, January 6.
As we begin the second semester, I would like to go over a few reminders about health and wellness and weather related alerts and messaging.
Health and wellness
Flu cases, as well as other respiratory illnesses, are on the rise in metro Atlanta. With many in our community having recently returned from their travels during the holidays, it is important that we lean heavily on the C in CREST by keeping students at home if they are sick.
The Flu A (H3N2) strain does not match the ‘25-’26 flu shot, which is why symptoms can be particularly severe. These include a rapid onset, headache, nausea/vomiting, and a sudden high fever. If your student is showing any of these symptoms please keep them at home while they recover.
Help us keep the transmission of cold and flu viruses to a minimum by encouraging the following habits:
• Regular hand washing
• Not sharing food at school
• Cover nose and mouth when sneezing
Wearing a mask may also help lower the risk of respiratory virus transmission. GLOBE are not providing masks, however, students are welcome to bring their own if they wish.
Please make sure we can reach you in the event your child becomes ill. If you are contacted to pick up your child from school, we ask that you please arrive to collect them promptly (within one hour).
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to keep our GLOBE community safe and healthy in 2026.
Winter season
Although we are currently experiencing milder temperatures at the beginning of January, the weather can quickly take a turn for the worse. When severe weather creates hazardous conditions, the regular school schedule may be suspended to ensure the safety of students and staff. GLOBE follows DeKalb County School District decisions on weather emergencies. If emergency early dismissal is necessary, the school will contact parents with dismissal instructions.
Suitable clothing
Please ensure students wear suitable clothing to school, especially during the early morning when temperatures are particularly low. Recess and P.E. are only held indoors if it is actively raining, or if the temperature "feels like" it is at or below 32ºF.
Register to receive text message notifications
Please register your cell phone number with our Remind text messaging service by texting @globers to 81010.
If a potentially hazardous event occurs prior to the beginning of the school day, we recommend you tune in to local radio or television broadcasts (WSB-TV Channel 2 is a great resource), check local news networks, GLOBE's website, social media, etc. for information.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions. We are looking forward to another great semester here at GLOBE!
In community,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director
