From Principal Honeycutt From Principal Honeycutt

What a great first week at NBMS! I hope your child shared positive highlights from his/her first days of school for the year.

We had class meetings with each grade level to share expectations and rules and answer any questions about school policies. We discussed attendance, work ethic, responsibility, recess, PBIS and other things. It's helpful when everyone hears the same thing and all start the year on "the same page".

We completed several of our safety drills and will complete more in the coming week, including a lockdown drill and evacuation drill. We will not evacuate the campus, but we will practice evacuating the building to the football/soccer field.

There is a lot of information and reminders in this newsletter, thank you for taking the time to read this. As I shared earlier, I don't typically send out Sunday phone messages, I send this newsletter instead. Please let me know if there are things you would like more communication about or things you want shared.

Please let me know if you have questions or concerns, my door is always open. You can always email me, too.

Thanks,

Nicholas

Washington, D.C. Trip Meeting Washington, D.C. Trip Meeting

There will be a parent meeting about the 8th grade class trip to Washington DC on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:00 in the auditorium. Information about the itinerary, behavior/attendance/academic requirements, cost, payment plans, fundraising opportunity, and more will be covered. If your child is interested in going on the trip, please make plans to attend.

Girls In Aviation Program Girls In Aviation Program

We have recently advertised a Girls in Aviation program that was to be held on a Saturday this fall. Unfortunately, the sponsors of this program have canceled for the fall and will reschedule in the spring due to construction at the Asheville Airport. I have saved the list of names who have expressed interest and will reach out when we get the new date.

Open House and Tailgate Open House and Tailgate

Mark Your Calendar for our annual Open House and Tailgate on Wednesday, September 24, from 4 to 6 PM. After being in school for several weeks this is a great chance to speak with your child's teachers. We also invite you to attend the home football and/or volleyball games we have scheduled that day. We will also have several food and treat trucks on campus that afternoon, including:

  • 6 Pigs BBQ
  • Kona Ice
  • Mary's Mountain Cookies

Student Athletes Pick Up Location Student Athletes Pick Up Location

If you are the parent or family of a student athlete and picking them up after practice, please pick them up in front of the gym (on the tennis court side) or on the side of the gym along the road. There is plenty of parking in the lot between the gym and the tennis courts. We ask that you not park or pick up in the back bus lot, this blocks our buses for being able to get in and out and it also blocks delivery trucks to our cafeteria and other deliveries. Thanks for your help!

Reminder: No Cell Phones between 7:30 and 3:02 Reminder: No Cell Phones between 7:30 and 3:02

North Carolina has enacted a new state law (House Bill 959) that requires all public schools to prohibit students from using or having wireless communication devices, including cell phones, turned on during instructional time. Exceptions to the ban include emergencies, medical needs, and teacher-approved instructional use

LineWize LineWize

Our school uses a program called Linewize to support safe and productive technology use. With Linewize, teachers can see what students are doing on their devices during class, helping them stay focused on learning. It also provides activity reports, which give us insights into online habits and potential risks so we can better support students both in school and at home. We shared with students last week that if they are using their device to search for inappropriate content or send threatening messages, it will immediately alert administrators.

United Way Community Nights United Way Community Nights

We are excited to sponsor our first Community Night on September 16, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. We will be playing BINGO, you don't want to miss it. We have scheduled 16 Community Nights this school year. Community Nights are sponsored by United Way and it's an opportunity to strengthen our school community with food and fun. United Way provides free catered meals at each one and we try to schedule fun activities or special programs at each one. Again, the first one is family BINGO. This is open to all students and families at NBMS and within the NB district. Also at each Community Night is tutoring and homework help. Again, you don't want to miss it. See you there!
