IB Students Return from FLORENCE!
Over fall break, some of our IB juniors and seniors traveled to Florence, Italy for the annual CAS trip. This trip focuses on Creativity, Activity, and Service and gives students a chance to immerse themselves in the culture of wherever they are traveling beyond sightseeing and tourist attractions.
While there, they participated in challenges to acquaint them with the culture, did a historical walking tour, explored Florence’s history of art, visited the Duomo and the Leonardo da Vinci Museum, took a sketching and music workshop, traveled to Fiesole and Monte Ceceri, took a cooking class, explored sustainable fashion, visited the Uffizi Gallery, and finally - partnered with a local charity to learn about homelessness in Florence and make blankets to donate to those in need.

Classroom Spotlight
Biochemistry in Action!
In Ms. Dickerson's Biology class, students recently participated in the Toothpickase Lab, a hands-on activity designed to demonstrate enzyme function and reaction rates.
Working in teams, students acted as enzymes ("toothpickase") breaking down substrates (toothpicks) under different trial conditions:
Normal Function: Uninhibited reaction rates over a 90-second period.
Competitive Inhibition: Modeling how obstacle conditions slow down enzyme activity.
Denaturation/Damage: Simulating how structural changes impact an enzyme’s ability to work.
Students gathered individual data, compiled class averages, and graphed their findings over time.
