The Sheiko Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: October 9, 2026
Principal Update
Dear Sheiko Families,
This week's BIG ANNOUNCEMENT is all about academic growth and achievement!
On Monday, October 19th, your child's NWEA MAP Growth reports will be coming home! Please be sure to check your child's backpack for this important information.
These reports provide valuable insight into your child's academic progress in reading and math. At Sheiko, we want every student to understand that learning is a journey, and we celebrate GROWTH! We encourage you to review the results with your child, celebrate their successes, and talk about academic goals they can work toward throughout the school year.
Readers Are Leaders!
One of the BEST ways to support your child's academic growth is through daily reading! Every Sheiko student has a book from school to read at home, and our goal is for every child to read for 20–30 minutes EVERY night!
Whether your child is reading independently, reading aloud to you, or enjoying a book together, those minutes matter! Consistent reading builds vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Imagine the impact if every Sheiko student committed to reading every single night! Just 20–30 minutes a day can make a tremendous difference over the course of a school year.
Our goal is simple: Every student. Every day. Growing as a learner!
Thank you for partnering with us to make academic achievement a priority. Together, we can help every Sheiko student reach their fullest potential!
Goooooooooooo Lakers! 💚🤍
Warm regards,
Blaine McDowell

Food Drop-Offs & Morning Car Line
Food Drop-Offs Are Not Permitted
- Please remember that we are not allowing any food deliveries or drop-offs during the school day. This includes snacks, lunches brought by parents, and food delivery services such as DoorDash.
- The good news is that we have options available for all students!
Snacks: Students may pick up a snack during breakfast time and save it for their classroom snack time, at no cost!
Forgotten Lunches: No worries! If your child forgets their lunch, our cafeteria will provide a free lunch with three choices available.
- There is no need to make a special trip to school if your child forgets their food. We've got them covered!
Please Use the Morning Car Line
- We also ask that all families dropping off students use our designated car line rather than parking in the school parking lot and having students walk into the building.
- Our parking spaces are needed for our teachers and staff, and we are finding that staff members do not have places to park when families use these spaces during arrival.
- Using the car line also helps us maintain a safe, organized, and efficient arrival process for everyone.
We know mornings can be busy, and we truly appreciate your partnership in following these procedures. These small things make a BIG difference in helping our school run smoothly!
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support of Sheiko!
Dismissal Update
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Starting Monday, 9/28/2026 students are only permitted to be designated as "walkers" if your primary residence is within a 1-mile radius of the school. If you live outside this 1-mile zone, your child must be picked up via the car line or ride their assigned school bus.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our dismissals safe and organized!
Car Line Reminder
Please remember that we can only have a single car lane in the morning. If someone pulls up on the "playground" side, that is because they are dropping their child off at Kids Connect, door 12. Please do not block this lane. Parents have paid for Kids Connect, and they need to drop them off and get to work.
Volunteers and Visitors to the Building
Unscheduled visitors coming to the building will not be permitted to enter past the front office. Drop-in visitors will not be allowed to enter the building without a pre-scheduled appointment. We will continue this approach in an effort to maximize safety and security while minimizing disruptions to learning.
Volunteers, both parent/community volunteers (Reading Mentors, Watch DOGS, classroom volunteers, etc.) as well as student mentors in programs such as the professional apprenticeship, are permitted under the following circumstances:
- They must have approval from the principal and teacher before volunteering.
- Interested volunteers must also complete a volunteer form and provide a copy of their driver’s license/ID to the school’s office staff upon request. Once completed, the paperwork is forwarded to HR for a background check (ICHAT).
- iCHAT background checks are still required for all non-student volunteers.
E-Funds
This year WB will be using E-Funds to pay for field trips! We will no longer be accepting cash for field trips so please be sure to create an account.
