SPHS Update December 17th, 2023

SPHS Community,

It is difficult to believe, but this will be the last SPHS update of 2023. So many great things happened this past year and I'm just so honored to serve this community.

The choral concert this past week was fantastic and our winter sports are in full swing. A short week is on deck with South Portland Schools observing the winter break from Friday, the 22nd through Monday, the 1st. We return to school on Tuesday, January 2nd.

I'm really looking forward to Culture Day at SPHS this Thursday. The event last year was one of the highlights of the year, and the event this year looks to be even better. Our strength is without a doubt in our diversity and that will be on full display Thursday. We'll also be honoring winter sports in our pep rally at the end of school day.

Finally, as we come to the winter break, which is almost half way through our school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible achievements and growth we've experienced together so far this year. Our students have shown remarkable resilience, dedication, and a commitment to the values that define our school community.

As we embark on this well-deserved winter break, I encourage each of you to embrace the "SoPo Way" in all your endeavors.

The "SoPo Way" represents more than just a set of principles; it is a collective mindset that fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for all. It is a commitment to excellence, respect, and kindness that we strive to embody in every interaction.

During this break, I encourage students to take time for self-reflection and relaxation. Cherish moments spent with family and friends, engage in activities that bring you joy, and recharge your spirits for the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead.

To our dedicated teachers and staff, thank you for your unwavering commitment to providing a learning environment that is firmly rooted in the premise that strong relationships are the very bedrock of a quality education. Your care, passion, and dedication will, no doubt, have a lasting impact on our students' lives.

May this winter break be a time of joy, reflection, and rejuvenation for all members of the SPHS community. As we look forward to the new year, let us continue to uphold the values of the "SoPo Way" and work together to make our school an even better place for learning and growth.

Wishing you all a restful and joyful winter break.

Take care and be well,
