Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission

Raven News,August 20, 2023Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission

A Message From Mrs. Gabriela Elliott, Campus Principal

Greetings Ravens! We have completed three weeks of the school year. Please note MP1 3 Week Progress Reports Will Be Available This Week through Skyward. Paper copies will not be sent home; they are all electronic. Please log in to Skyward to review your child's grades and progress. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Some Reminders:

Attendance: Let's make sure our Ravens are in school every day, all day. Our goal for this school year is 97% school-wide.

Save The Date: Coffee With Principal August 22nd at 9am. Topics to be covered: Safety, Attendance, Bullying Prevention, Volunteer Opportunities and Community Events.

Student ID's: All students should have received their IDs. IDs are mandatory for bus transportation. They also help our lunch lines run faster. Replacement IDs will be $5. If your child did not receive an ID, please have them communicate with their Raven Teacher.

School Dances: School dances are a privilege. Students with excessive absences, failing grades or any discipline referral will not be allowed to attend. Every 9 weeks is a new opportunity to reset do things better.

Drop off: Our drop is in the west side of the school. We are opening the building at 7:15am on the west student drop off area to accommodate for all of our arrivals. Scholars may report to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the gym if not having breakfast, when they arrive before 7:45am. We have grab and go breakfast for those arriving at 7:45. They then report directly to their classroom. We have monitors in every hall supervising.

Arriving On Time and Classroom Transitions: Thank you parents for getting your children to school on time. First bell rings at 7:45am and our tardy bell rings at 8:00am. We also want to ensure that students transition between classes on time. Please note, students accumulating 3 or more tardies in a week will result in lunch detention. Please encourage your child to get to their classes on time. We will begin enforcing tardy detention this week.

Capturing Kid's Hearts: Please read attached newsletter for an overview on CKH.

Water Bottles: Please ensure your children bring water bottles every day. It is very hot outside and very important for them to stay hydrated.

Safety: Our perimeter doors are always locked. We have designated visitor parking at the front of the school for those entering our building. Please be prepared with an identification.

Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me or any of the Eastlake Middle School Staff, if you have additional questions. Please follow us on Twitter for daily highlights and announcements: @Eastlake_Middle.

Respectfully,

Gabriela Elliott, Proud Raven Principal

Do You Have a Meal Balance?

We will continue making phone calls and sending letters home for pending balances at the campus level. Please note that any student with any balance (lunch, fundraiser or technology) will not be able to take part in any campus event such as dances. Please take care of your campus balances. You can see pending lunch balances by logging into My SchoolBucks.

Have you filled out the Meal Application already?

We have 151 students pending their lunch application. As a reminder, this is required of ALL students regardless of eligibility. Please complete your application, if you have not done so already. Thank you for your support.

Application Direct Link https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict. You may also call 937-0450 or visit www.sisd.net/article/1166210 to learn more.

Attendance Reminders

Attending school everyday is critical for student success. Every period counts. Please communicate with attendanceeastlakemiddle@sisd.net, if your child is absent. With your support, we will continue to develop the very real gifts and talents of all of our scholars. The state of Texas holds administrators and parents accountable for attending school daily. NEW: This year, district policy indicates parents/guardians have 72 hours to submit excuse notes justifying child's absence.

Incentive: Perfect attendance Monday-Friday, earns our scholars Jeans on Friday. Way to make it count Ravens!

STAAR Scores Are Now Available

The State has released STAAR scores in the family portal at www.texasassessment.gov

  • Parents/Guardians and Students will need access codes to retrieve the scores.
  • The portal access codes are available in their Skyward accounts under the Texas Assessments Tile. Their access code is a hyperlink and will direct them to the www.texasassessment.gov site and log them in directly.

We will be using Capturing Kids Hearts this year. Library Corner

We welcome all Eastlake MS students to become Raven Readers! Students are expected to check-out and read at least 4 books every marking period to support their literacy. To best encourage this, we provide a great selection of books students will be interested in picking for independent reading, including graphic novels!

The library is promoting different types of books through displays such as the National Day Books. We have created a calendar following different topics for every day and have a book matching the events. There is always something to celebrate!

Would you like to be a Parent Volunteer?

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer? While we are still finalizing our date for the informational meeting, you can complete your district background check now through this link. https://my.sisd.net/public_apps/dps-cch-public/#!/home/

Background checks must be done yearly with them being valid from July 1 to June 30 of the current school year. You will need to be cleared by the district and attend one of our orientations. The orientations will allow you to learn about the process of coming into the campus and the various opportunities available. More information about these orientations will be shared once finalized.

We would love to have your help!
