Deadpool by Gerry Duggan

In the lead-up to Axis, our red-clad hero is stalked by a classic Spider-Slayer! Wait. This isn't a Spider-Man book. So what is a Spider-Slayer doing here? Deadpool had better find out before it mistakes one wisecracking hero for another and mashes DP into Spider-paste! Then, when the events of Axis invert him, Deadpool puts down the guns! And the knives. And the grenades. And the...you get the point. Deadpool's gone Zen! So how is he going to help his "FauX-Men" friends live through an attack by the real, also-inverted X-Men?! Who knows?

gFlash

A tried-and-true method for studying has been and always will be the use of flash cards. Think of gFlash as a modern version of a flash card that gives students more flexibility than their paper counterparts. Android users can rejoice with this one as well. One of the coolest features of the app aside from the ability to customize is to track your improvement on a set of flash cards. http://www.gflashcards.com/

myHomework

Success in school depends on a student's ability to stay on top of homework assignments, and the myHomework app is designed to do exactly that. This useful tool integrates with the smartphone's calendar in order to create reminders. It's free for both Apple and Android devices -- the right price for a starving student. https://myhomeworkapp.com/

Google Goggles

Search by taking a picture: point your mobile phone camera at a painting, a famous landmark, a barcode or QR code, a product, a storefront, or a popular image. If Goggles finds it in its database, it will provide you with useful information. Goggles can read text in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish, and translate it into other languages. Goggles also works as a barcode / QR codescanner. https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/166331

60 Second Recap

60 Second Recap introduces students to literature in one-minute video bites. Most are YouTube video clips. Before you decide that this is what's wrong with education today, take a look. Each book in the 60 Second Recap library (classics like Lord of the Flies, Frankenstein, Brave New World, Hamlet and Jane Eyre) is summarized with a one minute "teaser," an overview, a look at the cast, the plot, the theme, motifs, symbols--all the elements we would want students to pay attention to when encountering a new work of literature.

Ever Wonder what other teens are reading?

Check out this map of most read books by high school seniors in each state. It looks like The Lottery is the winner for Maryland http://mic.com/articles/128810/the-most-read-book-among-high-school-seniors-from-each-state-in-one-surprising-map#.qMVF1SuFK
