Principal's Message
Dear Hiteon Families,
As we step into the holiday season, we want to take a moment to reflect on the joy and inspiration your children bring to our school. Each student is a true gift, enriching not only our classrooms but also the entire Hiteon community with their unique personalities and talents.
We also recognize that this time of year can bring challenges for some families. Please know that we are here to support you. If your family or child is facing difficulties, whether big or small, we encourage you to reach out to our school social worker or counselor. They are a resource for navigating these moments and ensuring that everyone feels supported and cared for.
Our teachers are committed to meeting the needs of each student and work diligently to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment. They want to understand how to best support your children, and we as a school are always here to partner with you in this effort.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our Hiteon family. Wishing you a season filled with warmth, kindness, and connection.
Sincerely,
Janet Maza and Jenny Read-Emslie

Reminder Arrival Drop Off is 7:30am
It is important to know there is NO adult supervision before 7:30am.
It is super cold and dark very early in the morning and we have see a number of students
standing outside as early as 7:15am. It is not safe for them to be dropped off so early.
For the safety of your child, please don't drop off your student until 7:30am.

Inclement Weather Information
When we experience inclement weather, school schedules can be affected — either by a delayed start, early release or school cancellation. The district makes decisions based on the ability of:
The district to operate school buses safely.
Students and parents/guardians to drive safely.
Students to walk to schools or bus stops safely.
Staff to get to work safely.
Decisions are made for the entire district. However, we encourage families to make transportation and attendance decisions for their children based on their own assessment of travel conditions at their locations.
School delays or closures are typically communicated by 5:30 a.m. For the latest information:
Check the district website. A page pop-up will be posted if there’s a change in school operations. You also can find inclement weather protocols and snow routes online.
Look for a notification on ParentSquare.
Follow us on the district’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Tune into media outlets for updates.

Parents Lunching with Students in Cafeteria
We know that it is a treat to be able to have lunch with your student once in a while and even on their birthday. Unfortunately, updated district policy now directs us to no longer allow parents to have lunch with students in the cafeteria.
Student Safety
In our cafeterias, we can have upwards of 100 children, typically with only 2-3 staff members present. Those staff members are busy attending to students' needs. We simply don't have enough staff in the space to sufficiently supervise adult visitors and the potential contact those adults may have with other students. Even if those adults have passed a background check as part of the volunteer process, staff are still required to have "sight or sound" supervision for the safety of all children.
Student Disruption
Based on previous experiences, having adults in the cafeteria can result in two kinds of disruptions. First, there have been cases in the district of parents injecting themselves into student conflicts. Parents may lack the training and context that our teachers and staff have for dealing with these types of student situations; the district does not want to have parents "disciplining" students.
If you have any questions regarding this new update, please feel free to contact the main office.

Volunteer Background Check System
If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
