Principal's Message Principal's Message

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and partnership this school year. Thank you for using the Cardinal Compliment form to recognize our staff throughout the year. Thank you for showing up at events, coming to meetings, communicating with our staff, supporting and encouraging and challenging your student, and being a part of our team.

This year as a staff, we really focused on one main thing creating a culture of learning. As a staff, we were intentional about our work in our Collaborative Teams - focusing on four main questions:

1. What do we want students to learn?

2. How will we know if they have learned it?

3. What will we do when they don't learn it?

4. What will we do when they do learn it?

We also introduced The Cardinal Way to our school community this school year. We embedded Be Kind, Work Hard, and Own It in all that we did throughout the year - both inside and outside the classrooms.

I am proud of our staff and students and we look forward to continuing this same work next year and growing and getting better every single day.

For our returning families, you will see a newsletter like this emailed in late May or early June. We will send another one in late July with "back to school" information.

8th Grade Clap Out

  • Families of 8th grade students are invited to join us for our "Clap Out" of 8th graders on the last day of school - Thursday, May 21.
  • If you are able to join us, you should arrive between 3:20-3:30 and stand along the sidewalk beside the track behind our building. The 8th grade students will exit our building at approximately 3:45 from the orchestra doors (back, middle of our building) and will walk along the sidewalk by the track to the bus loop.
  • Please do NOT park in our bus loop or in a non-parking space. Our buses will need to be able to access the full parking lot at the end of the day. Parking will be very limited so you will likely end up having to park on the street and walk over

Staff Shoutouts! Staff Shoutouts!

  • Mrs. Wilkins goes above and beyond every, single day to support the learning of her students. She has an incredibly large storehouse of knowledge of tried and true methods to reach children that have obstacles to learning, but most importantly her instruction is led by her heart. Her care about and for the students is palpable as she always first seeks to understand what makes each student tick. She helps them to overcome obstacles and to reach individual goals. Worthingway is lucky to have her on the faculty!

  • Mr. Rings worked so hard with the robotics team this year and was quick to respond to emails when I had any questions. My son loves being on the team and when he and his partner did especially well at the state competition and were being considered for an award for their improvement in the middle of the competition, Mr. Rings let me know about it and it was clear from our phone call how proud of my kid he was. Teachers who are as invested in the success of your kids as you are are worth their weight in gold!

  • Mr. Canterbury does an amazing job of really getting to know his students. He knows their strengths and weaknesses and checks in with them when needed to help them reach their potential. He goes out of his way to keep in touch with parents and it is truly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to recognize every student's potential and strengths!

Important REMINDERS Important REMINDERS

Medications at School:

  • Students in grade 6-12 are permitted to carry and self-administer over-the-counter medications at school, only if a form has been completed and signed by their parent/guardian, and has been turned in to our School Nurse, Joyce Casey. You may find this form here. Students are never permitted to share these medications with others at school. Parent/guardians are also able to elect for the over-the-counter medicine to remain in the health office, and dosages are administered and recorded by Mrs. Casey.
  • Prescription medications (with the exception of epipens and albuterol inhalers) are not allowed to be carried by students, and must remain in the health office. All medications, prescription and over-the-counter, must come to our school buildings in their original containers so they can be properly identified.
  • Please take extra care to make sure your student is only bringing medications to school that have appropriate forms filed with the health office. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Casey at 614-450-4300 or jcasey@wscloud.org.

DACC Summer Camp

  • Attention families of rising 7th-9th graders! The Delaware Area Career Center is hosting its annual Summer Camp on June 2-4. DACC will offer nine camps this year, covering a wide variety of subjects and career fields. Each camp will be hands-on, engaging and fast-paced — allowing local middle school students to "try on a career" and learn new skills over a three-day span. They will get to learn from and alongside industry professionals and current DACC students, all while making new friends who have similar interests. It is a great way to kick off your summer and begin to experience the magic of career-technical education in your own community!
  • Registration will open Wednesday, March 4th at 6 a.m. Visit DACC's website for more information on this year's camp offerings and DACC Summer Camp in general!

Students that are dropped off or picked up by car will enter via our main office entrance (Rieber Street). Buses will drop off and and pick up at our 6th grade entrance (Guyer Street side). Important notes:

  • Student Safety is our top priority. Please be mindful of our walkers and bike riders (we have bike racks on our bus drop off side). If you exit on the Guyer Street side, please yield to crossing students AND incoming buses.
  • Doors open at 8:50 for student drop off. Students will be instructed to remain in the cafeteria or gym until 9:03. Classes begin at 9:10 and end at 3:50.
  • We ask families to pull all the way forward to the end of our main lot at pick up time. Cars that stop at the front doors can create backups that extend onto Rieber St.
