December is Busy!

December is a busy, busy month for most schools and LJES is no different. We have a family night scheduled, Santa Shop, Cookies with Santa, winter spirit week, and so many club and after school meetings. Each of those big events has a section below where you can learn more and plan to join us.

In addition to all of these events, December is also a big month for student assessments. As you know, the district is now using iReady for formative assessments to provide teachers with individual student information they can use to differentiate lessons and meet each students' individual needs.

During the weeks leading up to our holiday break, students in grades 1-5 will complete their winter iReady assessment. Kindergarten students will take their assessment when we return in January. This assessment will show teachers students' current strengths and needs as well as allow them to see growth from fall to now.

***New car rider line / procedure begins next week**

Thank you for your patience as we begin a new system.

Beginning Monday, December 4th, LJES will have a new car rider line / procedure. In an effort to get our car rider line off of 61, the district has paved a portion of land to connect our existing parking lot to the gravel lot at the splash ground. With all the additional traffic on 61 caused by the construction and constant wrecks, this should help us fit more cars in our line and not congest the neighborhood streets as badly.

Beginning Monday, no car riders will pull into the front lot of our building.

All car riders in the morning AND afternoon will enter on Airport Road and drive to the second splash entrance. From there, make two lines that wrap around the gravel/splash pad lot. When reaching the new asphalt area, merge to create one line as you drive down to our main parking lot.

In the mornings: create one lane to drop your child off at the cafeteria doors.

In the afternoons, create two lanes for dismissal just as we do now.

PreK and our hand-to-hand students will dismiss from the rear gym doors in the afternoon. Parents for these students may park in the splash pad lot as the final spaces should not be blocked by the rider line as it winds around.

There will no longer be any afternoon pickups at the cafeteria doors. Any student who is not preschool or a designated hand-to-hand student will be a true car rider and will wait in the cafe until their car rider number/car is called.

We will have staff placed at the front lot entrance and also at the splash pad to help direct traffic as everyone gets used to the new pattern.

Later this week, we hope to film a live video driving the new pattern to send out so everyone can visualize it better.
