Meet the Teacher Night: August 25th
This year, we will communicate grade level classroom assignments for your child in a convenient and secure manner. Teacher assignments will be available in your students PowerSchool Portal after 3:00pm on Thursday, August 21st. Please note NO individual emails will be sent like previous years.
This year, parents will have an opportunity to meet their teachers before the first day of school. As UCS continues to implement innovative approaches to enhance community engagement, traditional mid-September Open House events will be replaced with an earlier, before-school event so that students and parents can meet their teachers prior to the first day of school.
Our school will be hosting a “Meet the Teachers” event on Monday, August 25, 2025, from
5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
At this event, families will be warmly welcomed to their school and classrooms, suggested school supplies may be dropped off, and students can meet other classmates. Additionally, information previously communicated to parents at Open House will be made available to parents by the end of the first week of school through electronic communication, class newsletters, and/or printed handouts.
The goal of this change is to create a positive experience for families prior to the opening of school. It also provides parents with important class and curriculum information more efficiently and earlier in the school year than ever before.
Volunteer @ Harvey
UCS is moving to a new platform for our community members who want to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering use the QR code or link below to fill out your application. We look forward to having you at the Eagle House this year!
Dress Code Updates
Personal Devices at Jack Harvey
Please take a moment to read the following regarding cell phones, smart watches, and other personal devices. Our district policy says: "The personal use of non-school issued cell phones or other electronic communication devices (ECDs) by students is prohibited at any time while in school or in a district vehicle." It also states: "Elementary students may bring a device to school, but the device must remain in their backpacks or locker area."
At Jack Harvey, we’ve learned from experience that cell phones and smart watches can cause big distractions. In the past, we’ve seen students texting each other during lessons, taking photos, and even getting mid-math updates from family members. While those messages are well-intentioned, they pull students away from the deep thinking and learning happening in the classroom.
Here’s the plan:
- Students should keep cell phones and smart watches at home.
- If your child needs phone for after-school safety (like walking home), the phone must be:
- Stored out of sight in their backpack.
- On silent and not used at all during the school day
By following Board Policy and our Student Code of Conduct, the implementation of this will allow our school to be a place where kids can focus, connect face-to-face, and enjoy a much-needed break from constant notifications.
If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please call our office at (586) 797-5100, and we will be sure they get it.
Our Eagles already have plenty of screen time in their lives. Let’s work together to protect their learning space and give them the gift of being fully present during the school day.
Thank you!

When logging into PaySchools this year you will need your Student ID number. A quick and easy way to find it is to look on your child's report card and it will be located to the left of their name.
Medical Forms
Students sometimes need to take medication. Parents should administer medication to their children at home. In the event that is not possible, the school may administer either prescription or non-prescription medicine – but only when authorized by the student’s parent/guardian and the child’s physician. Requests must be made by completing an Authorization for Medication form, available from the school office or the website linked below.
If your student has any medical conditions that Harvey needs to be aware of, please fill out the appropriate forms, found at the link below, and turn them in to the Main Office as soon as possible. The form(s) must be signed by the child’s physician.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Early Arrivals/Late Arrivals/Early Dismissals
Student supervision is a shared responsibility between parents and school personnel. Children are to arrive at school no earlier than 8:55 AM, unless they are attending breakfast. Doors for breakfast will open at 8:45am. When arriving late to school, children must check-in at the main office. We understand some appointments need to be made during the school day. Please allow extra time in your schedule to pick up your student (s). We will call your student (s) out of class when you arrive at school. It is important your student(s) stay in class for as much of the academics as they can. Early dismissals will be reflected in PowerSchool.
Student Absences
On the day of absence, parent/guardian are asked to report an absence before the school day begins. Calls may be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will be received by an answering machine during non-school hours at 586-797-5199. Absences may also be reported by email at officeharvey@uticak12.org. Please do not call the main line, use the absence line or report by email. Documentation or other verification may be required to establish an excused absence. Please review the Board Policy 5115 below for more information regarding student attendance.
Planning a Vacation?
- Families may request up to 10 days of pre-approved vacation time using the proper absence request form. Anything beyond 10 days will be marked as unexcused, and students may be dropped from enrollment if more than 10 unexcused days occur.
Security Procedures
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. All guests must enter through the main office door
2. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
3. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
4. Each time you come to the office you will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door and once again at the main office.
5. Office staff will assist you.
6. Guests must have an appointment to meet with a staff member during instructional hours
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
Finally, all exterior doors are to remain locked and secure daily. Teachers will not prop doors open and any door that is open is to have a staff member monitoring it at all times.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Harvey safe.
