FULL STEAM AHEAD!
We are excited for our upcoming District-Wide STEAM Night on March 27th, where students from across the district and community partners will showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math! Our second graders will be showcasing instruments that they have created! In addition, some of our very own fifth-grade students will be participating in this special event, and they need your support. To bring their science experiments to life, we are asking families to consider donating supplies—every little bit helps! Please take a moment to check out the SignUpGenius link below and sign up to contribute. Thank you for helping our young scientists and engineers make this a memorable night of discovery and innovation!

Community Read and March Madness
We are in our second week of our March Madness Book Bracket, where all students are voting to narrow down their favorite book about kindness and friendship. Last week, our Community Read book, Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast and Abracadabra: The Magic of Trying were voted into the next round! Stay tuned each week as EES students identify their favorite friendship book!
Author Josh Funk wrote several books as part of his Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast series, one of which is Attack of the Scones. Today, 3rd grade parent and local chef at Googan's Galley, Mrs. Lynch, came and presented to Mrs. Curcuru's class on the importance of using their math skills to accurately measure baking ingredients! Students measured out dry ingredients to bring home to make their own scones! Yum!
Staff Book Tasting!
EES staff enjoyed a "Book Tasting" in the school library this week. Ms. Silag and Mrs. Donovan displayed an assortment of brand-new books funded by a Spaulding Education Fund grant to replace outdated materials, as well as a new selection of Social Emotional Learning books. Staff members enjoyed perusing the books - and grabbing a bite to eat thanks to support from The Friends of EES ! The new books are now available for all students and staff to check out. Thank you to Spaulding Education Fund for supporting our school library collections!
Coaches' Corner: Helpful Tips from our Instructional Coaches!
Supporting your child’s development of math skills at home can feel overwhelming. Here are a few easy and fun ways to encourage math thinking at home:
Have your child help measure ingredients for a recipe.
Give your child change to count out for small purchases. Older children can figure out how much change they will receive.
Have your child compare prices at the store. Ask younger children, ‘which shirt costs more?’ Ask older children, ‘how much more?’
Ask your child to figure out real world problems: ‘we have one can of tuna and we need 5. How many cans do we need to buy?’ For older children ask: ‘It takes 3 ½ hours to drive to grandma’s house. We’ve been driving for 1 ½ hours. How much longer until we get there?’
Most importantly, have fun, be curious and enjoy the math journey!
