A Little Bit About ME

Hi! My name is Crystal Elliott, but around Disney you'll hear me go by Ms. Crystal.

This is my 9th year as a school counselor in Springfield Public Schools and my first year at Disney Elementary. My favorite part of this work is building meaningful relationships with students, families, and staff while helping students learn new skills, overcome challenges, and discover their strengths. I also enjoy sharing what a comprehensive school counseling program looks like and the many ways it helps students succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Credentials

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Services and my Master of Science in School Counseling. I am certified as a K–12 School Counselor and am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC). The comprehensive school counseling program at my previous school was recognized for meeting both state and national standards for excellence in school counseling

Experience

Before joining the Disney family, I spent five wonderful years as the school counselor at Pittman Elementary and three years at Shady Dell Early Childhood Center. Before becoming a school counselor, I also worked in early childhood education and human services. Every experience has helped shape the counselor I am today, and I'm excited to bring those experiences to Disney Elementary.

My Family

My husband, Matt, and I have been married for 18 years, and together we have a wonderful blended family of five children: Jayden, Jacob, Novalee, Kason, and Willow. Our four oldest are now young adults, and Willow keeps us busy as our one school-aged kid at home. Life can be a little busyβ€”but I wouldn't have it any other way!

    Whole Class: Counselor Time!

Every other week, I visit each classroom to teach school counseling lessons aligned with the Missouri School Counselor Standards. Lessons are based on Springfield Public Schools' counseling curriculum and help students build the academic, social/emotional, and career skills they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

    Small Groups & Skill-Building Opportunities

In addition to classroom counseling lessons, some students may have the opportunity to participate in an academy or small group during the school year. These groups provide extra opportunities to learn and practice skills that help students be successful in school and in life. Depending on student needs, groups may focus on executive functioning, social skills, school success, managing anxiety and worry, test-taking strategies, or other important life skills. Group offerings may vary from year to year based on the needs of our students.

    Individual Student Support

Students, teachers, and parents/guardians can all request that I meet with a student. Most visits are brief and provide students with a safe, supportive space to talk, problem-solve, and learn coping strategies so they can return to class ready to learn.

While I respect students' privacy, there are times when I need to involve a trusted adult. If a student shares something that makes me concerned about their safety or well-being, I will let them know that I need to talk with a parent/guardian or another trusted adult so we can work together to provide the support they need.

If you ever have questions or concerns about your child, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help.

Community Partnership: Centerstone (Burrell Behavioral Health)

Disney Elementary partners with Centerstone (Burrell Behavioral Health) to provide additional mental health supports for students and families. Burrell offers school-based services, and I can help answer questions or provide information about the referral process if your family is interested in learning more.

    Partnering with Families

I believe parents and caregivers are experts on their own children, and I value the opportunity to partner with families throughout the school year. By sharing information, celebrating successes, and working through challenges together, we can help every child feel supported, confident, and ready to learn.

    School Counseling Advisory Committee

One of my goals this year is to create a School Counseling Advisory Committee made up of parents, staff, students and community members who are interested in supporting our school counseling program. The committee will meet twice a year to provide feedback, share ideas, and help ensure the counseling program continues to meet the needs of Disney students and families. If you'd enjoy serving on the committee, I'd love to have you join us.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can support your family in any way. Please don't hesitate to reach out if I can support your family in any way.
